Every 5 minutes or so, internet explorer will open up with four or five banner ads. I tried a virus scan with norton 2004 but found nothing. Also checked my add/remove programs directory but there was nothing new added or anything in there that says anything about banner adds. Also check my program files directory and found nothing. Any ideas of how I can get rid of these stupid advertisements? I've been using my cable internet connection for over 6 months now and this crap just started two days ago. I haven't installed anything in the past few days except for a tv tuner card which was done today. I think it was probably an internet site I came upon that somehow installed this garbage on my system. If anyone can give me any help on this other then formatting, it would me most appreciated. |

1. Ad Aware. There's a free for personal use version that works nicely.
2. Stop using Internet Explorer. Switch to something security-conscious that blocks popups like Firefox (previously known as Firebird/Phoenix). _________________ Editor @ RPGDot |

I have Yahoo and that stops them. Nothing would stop them with IE. And that Ad Aware is great. I took almost 200 files off my system with it. _________________ =Member of the Nonflamers Guild=

What about the Avant Browser? I have that on my system now but hardly ever use it. As for Ad-aware, it worked like a charm. Found 159 keys that was causing this crap. Thanks very much for recommending this program. |

I don't really know much about Avant. Firefox is open-source, standards-driven which I find reassuring, not to mention excellent features like tabbed browsing and no pop-ups. _________________ Editor @ RPGDot |

Actually the Google Toolbar works great for that. |

Yes, but it doesn't address the inherent security risks in IE. _________________ Editor @ RPGDot |
