Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines revealed

<A href="http://www.gamespot.com/pc/rpg/vtmb/news_6026275.html" target=_blank>Gamespot</A> has news on a new game by Troika (Arcanum & Greyhawk) and Activision, namely Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines. After 2000's hit title Vampire: The Masquerade - Redemption by Nihilistic, Activision takes another step into White Wolf's RPG world. There's no word about the platform, but using the Half-Life 2 engine, one might assume it will be released for PC as well and hopefully it is not just another MMORPG, but a good single player experience. Here's the middle of the three paragraphs the preview covers:<I>
<BLOCKQUOTE><I><I>In the game, players will play as a fledgling vampire who will belong to one of seven vampire clans, each of which has its own distinctive strengths and abilities, including superhuman strength and speed, invisibility, and mind control, to name a few. As players progress through the game, they'll earn experience points that they can spend on improving their powers. These abilities and the game's major vampire factions will be drawn from White Wolf's Vampire: The Masquerade pen-and-paper game. "We are very excited to have Activision and Troika producing Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines," said Chris McDonough of White Wolf Games. "They are among the elite few companies capable of taking our property into the world of first-person action gaming while still maintaining the story, setting, characters, and role-playing aspects of the game."</I></I></BLOCKQUOTE></I>

I love the not another MMOG line....

I would have snapped back with yelling, screaming, profanity a year ago.

Now, I am so sick of MMOGs of all kind. I'm sick of the immature communities. I have an XBOX and Live! might have been the final straw.
The only thing worse than children typing idiocies is hearing them say them in your ear. Now I really wonder who I've been playing with...

I'm now back playing BGII again, and remembering that my imagination was a wonderful place. I vow to be social in real life, and solo in my gaming..... i too hope this interesting title in single player.

We need more information to form any real opinions but I'm optimistic about this. I must say I'm a bit surprised to see Troika doing a first-person title based on the Half Life 2 engine but good luck to them. I just hope they really put some genuine RPG depth in and not just shooter-like action.

These current projects should be nicely profitable - hopefully Troika will return to developing their own unique settings in the future.

head trout Tim Cain described it as that in a few of his recent devchats and interviews. PC action rpg. Cain is also on record of "never" doing a MMORPG.

Oh, that's cool - thanks for the info.
Mr Cain will never do a MMORPG? Kudos, Mr Cain! If you were a girl I'd marry you right away

It's not Tim Cain's project.

But I guess he wouldn't let anyone on the team tarnish the Troika name.

Tim was lead on the project before Infrogrames approached Troika with the D&D license, so at least it was his. Given their arrangements its fair to say Cain speaks for Anderson, Boyarsky, and viceversa.

'this game is still a Troika RPG with complex dialogue trees, rich character development, deep quests, plus non-linear, open-ended gameplay that allows the player to create their character any way they want from any of seven different Vampire clans

Half Life 2 engine, whoa, sounds great. The biggest complaint about Cain's RPGs has always been the graphics.

Nah, multiplayer detracts devs in most cases, what do you want? A vamp deathmatch?
Great single player campaign == t3h win

The previous vamp game is much different of how the new one will be.(thank god) I don't want multiplayer in there.
