How do you map the arrow keys to movement ?

Hi guys,

Just started playing this game, got to level 4 so not far through it.

However, I would love to be able to map the normal arrow keys to the movement functions in KOTR but it wont let me.

Anyone know how to do it ?

thanks

One of the interface issues that annoyed the heck out of me, as well.

I was just about to buy the game when my friend informed about the lack of key mapping.

I just won't buy the game. Too bad. It got good write ups. My friend and I often like to play the same game at the same time which means we each buy a copy. But I won't even ask to borrow her copy when she's done if I can't map the keyboard.

Any game using WASD for movement should have remapping. I simply can't play using those keys. I just hope this doesn't become a trend. I'll have to stop RPG gaming completely if it does.

To the makers of the game. If you allow people to map the keys, a player with a five button mouse can do all movements with the mouse and usually most of the other functions too. However, since you can't map a mouse to an alphabet key, you have to be able to map both game and mouse to the same special key (e.g. Page Up for walk forward).

I agree with you that not being able to remap keys is a terrible oversight by the devs, but to reject playing a game based on that fact? I can understand, perhaps, not buying a game because of that, but I just can't see not playing a game for that reason.

To me, all of the positive reviews (both here and in other places) suggest that this game is fantastic. As much as I hate WASD movement, I can't imagine not giving KOTOR a shot based solely on that issue.

Patch 1.02 will allow for map of keys.

Patch 1.02 will be released when it's done.

Re: How do you map the arrow keys to movement ?

Glad I got the game despite the mapping. I was misunderstanding the problem. You can map the keyboard in the game now. It is just that you can't map to the arrow keys. That is quite an oversight but not as bad as no mapping at all. I wish we could map to two keys, as allowed in other games.

Since moving by mouse is available in this game, when we can map to arrow keys in the next patch, I'll do that.

Mapping is coming! I just saw it on a sticky post about the Next KOTOR update at:

http://swforums.bioware.com/viewtopic.html?topic=308037&forum=27

Now to some of the goodies:

- adding a walking toggle
- mappable arrow keys
- 1280x1024 support
- dialog skipping bug fix
- various gameplay fixes

Moving by mouse only is available now! I just did a search on keyboard mapping at the Bioware site and found this:

    quote:
Well, actually you can use both. If you hold the right mouse button down, and press the left mouse button at the same time, your character will go in the direction you are facing.

And this!

    quote:
I actually don't use the keyboard for movement at all. There's a toggle in the options that makes mouselook the default, so mouse movement controls your view and the left button makes you walk. Holding down the right button produces the cursor and allows you to work with the interface.

I play the game entirely with my mouse. The ONLY key I ever touch on the keyboard is the spacebar.
