and i cant find it anywhere, near the lake, near abandoned caves...
I haven't played the gothic 1.
Im going crazy! 
If you can also put a screenshot, it would help me very much.

I found not to long ago..
I dont remeber it very clear but... I sure it were on my way throuw the pass
and it might have been right before the mine just after the stone brige.. try there  |

After going to that spot on the map you just mentioned, I still cant find the gold. I did find a small camp with a leather pouch in it but I think I opened the pouch...did I just steal Diego's gold? Or was it somewhere else? |

You probably did. I found it when I first entered the area and was just walking around the lake where G1 begins. Didn't have as much in it as I ended up giving him!!
