I'm not a pro by any means, but did you read the two faq threads in here to see if something sounds familiar? If you did and no help there, then what is the error message? Are you sure you have all other programs disabled before starting, including all virus scans ect.? 256 is barely enough ram for this game in real life. And if anything else is running in the background you will not have enough memory to run the game. Also try disk defrag and dump all temp files before trying to start. I am sure others here will have much more exact ideas.

Hey there p8ntball_liker,

Your system looks o.k, do you have the latest motherboard integrated chipset driver installed,? - - and your dma's enabled for the cd/dvd/rom and your hard drives?. do the direct-x tests return o.k? did you hear the music sound playing while you installed the game, try NOT to uninstall the game just
yet, (it can cause more problems).

I seem to have the same problem. I searched the FAQs and other messages to no avail. Heres my system:

GeForce 5200FX 256 MB
AMD Athlon 2800+
512 MB RAM

I forgot the motherboard I have. I know its an ATA RAID thing, but thats all I can remember...

It starts and runs the Virtual Disk File System for about 30 seconds, then stops and acts like it's going to load the game, then opens an error window that says:

Attempted to execute a priveleged instruction at address 77D53CE0h

(Then some numbers, too many to count really)

UNHANDLED EXCEPTION OCCURED
CRASH INFOS:

001B:004DF647 (0x00000000 0x00000000 0x00000000 0x00000000) gothic2.exe

If someone knows whats up, a quick post would be appreciated, Thanks

I would start with updating the graphics driver and reinstalling the latest DirectX. Then enter the task manager, close everything you donīt need to play the game and then try to start the game.
If the problem is still there you could download Prime95 and run it for at least 12 hours. This is a stability test which will stretch your CPU and RAM to the limit. No errors in Prime is an indicator that there is no hardware problem.
Especially bad RAM is really hard to proof, unfortunately.

If someone has the same problem (VDFS error on second start) he/she might send me an email ( nicode@gmx.net )
