64bit Windows XP

Hi,

I'm going to buy my new PC soon and it'll employ 64 bit AMD processor.
I of course studied technical boards for some information, so I know, I'll be able to install either 32 bit WinXP or 64 bit WinXP and that all 32-bit applications *SHOULD* run on the 64bit version. The only thing one needs are hardware drivers, as 32bit drivers cannot be installed on 64 WinXP.

I would be interesting in your experiences in this area. Does anyone have 64bit WindowsXP installed? Are you experiencing any issues, problems, lack of drivers ect.?

Thanks

I've been using X64 for awhile. It's been running rock solid for me with no problems. There are some issues with games and other software though. I've had older games and apps that refuse to install or run because they either have 16 bit installers or are 16 bit apps. From what I read x64 doesn't support 16 bit apps at all. I think most system utilities have to also be 64 bit in order to work properly. This includes virus scanners, firewalls and software like Daemon Tools, which is 64bit now. Though I've been using 32bit CD burning software with no problems. So in a way it just comes down to trial and error.

So right now I have some minor issues that haven't inconvenienced me too much. At least not enough to make me switch back to 32 bit XP. Though if you are looking for maximum compatibility and like older games then I'd say the 32 bit XP is a better bet for now. It also ran rock solid for me.
