I heard that this game is really "slow" on average PCs.

What is your personal experience? (I do not search for official words from developer)

I mean with what PC did you play it, with which resolution, details...?

I have TBird 800 MHz, GForce GTS2, 256 MB RAM

The game uses DX 8.1

I have:

Athlon 800
512 megs RAM
Voodoo 5 5500

I'm running in 800x600x32-max object details-partial complex shadows

Getting 25-30 fps outside
10-20 in town (~10 when the town is loading, 15-20 afterwards)
40-50 in dungeons

Given that my card does not have any DX 8.1 drivers, I feel the game is running exceptionally well. At the end of this month when Nvidia releases the GeForce4 Ti4200 I'll be upgrading.

There is a small amount of "stutter" when you're entering un-cached areas, but it's very minimal.

I have:

AMD Athlon 1700XP
512 MB Ram
Radeon 8500DV (overclocked to 280mhz)
Windows XP Pro

I run at 1600x1200 and it is rather slow, like between 15-25 FPS, but definitely playable. It's not really made to run at that high a res though so the text is really tiny.

Why? With the way the game plays that's a useless resolution...

Well the menus and text aside, imo it looks a lot better at 1600x1200. If you are able to, try it and I think you will see a difference. Oh and btw my monitor is 21" I just upgraded to a new (Well refurbished anyhow ) NEC monitor.

Well Llama I think that it is useable resolution on such a big monitor.

Ok, I tried it on my frined PC (same as I have). Good, smooth nearly max. details.

I think you will have problems with that MX card. They are really slow.

I'm playing with gf2mx and p3 450. it goes quite well (avg fps around 25, with peak at 40 ). Indeed this game uses dx8.1 But no vertex/pixel shaders as far as I know.

That's incredibly annoying, since DX is hard as hell to downgrade. I'd love to just go back to DX 8.0 since my video card has drivers that work well with that version.

Heh well for those of us with XP we can't downgrade at all. Oh well as long as the game runs I guess.

don't downgrade. As the posting says, DX8.1 has some bugfixes to DX7 that make the games actually run faster.

I think the grapic card isn't the real problem. It is said to be processor intense, really...

No, I'm wanting to downgrade back to 8.0 which runs blazing quick on my setup. It's just a driver issue where the v5 users have no 8.1 drivers to install.

Once I upgrade my video card I'll upgrade back to 8.1 with the supported drivers.
