Grim Fandango was really great. The voice actors do excellent job and the storyline is so film noir in a weird way that it's almost unbelievable. Characters are also really well crafted.
Sam & Max Hit the Road was also really good. It has this sort of deranged feel, which really makes it a special game, there are not others like it.
Monkey Island 2 is right there on the top. It still holds it's own regarding the art, music and puzzles. Dialogue is excellent too. Lucasarts at it's very best. _________________ Lead musician of Ultima IX Redemption

Heh. I rather liked Zak McKrakken(sp?) and the Mindbenders. Not my top favorite adventure game but quite amusing. Was one of the little known Lucasarts games. A long time back I had gotten a Lucasarts game bundle with various older games. I also liked Maniac Mansion. I remember cracking up when I sent in that tape of mating calls to that producer. Or the hamster in the microwave incident. Day of The Tentacle was fun too. Monkey Island 2 was funny back when I first played it I guess. But I found the later ones funnier. IE the talking demonic skull (can't remember his name) and the devil chicken. Oh yeah and Le Chimp but they always cut it off at Le so they thought it was Le Chuck. I have all the zork games for win 95 format except for grand inquisitor. I enjoyed some of the humor from the text ones. The graphic ones didn't have that much humor. The only other adventure game that comes to mind that I enjoyed quite a bit was Deadline. From Infocom. I doubt anyone remembers that one. I played that on the Atari 800. Anway I'm done rambling. _________________ "What are you gonna do? Release the dogs?! Or the bees?! Or dogs with bees in their mouth so that when they bark they shoot bees at you?" - Homer Simpson |

As is, I would have to say The Longest Journey is the best I have completed thus far (I have obtained a copy of Dreamfall, however, I have not yet managed to complete the game, putting it aside in favor of Hitman: Contracts...just a little refresher training before Blood Money comes out).
Actually, does anyone recall having played the "Hugo" adventure games from what seems like an eternity ago? They were distributed on floppy disks (yes, they are that old) and starred a man named Hugo, who constantly sought to rescue his wife (or girlfriend). I cannot recall much about them - as I last played them when I was eight or nine - but I seem to remember that they were amazing!
So, in conclusion:
1. The Longest Journey
2. The "Hugo" games...
Oh, and lest I forget, the Monkey Island series is a riot! |

Hugo's Nitemare? I just remember the 3D version (don't know if there were any others). Had adopted several features from the Catacomb 3D games, like destructible walls. _________________ Jaz |

Yes! That was one of the "new" ones, which I never actually played (having moved on to exploring other genres), however, I do recall having played Hugo's House of Horror. That ring any bells for anyone else? |

God!!! I cant believe what im reading in this thread!!!
-"Oblivion is the best ADVENTURE game"
-"UT2006, Best ADVENTURE game ever"
-"Gothic is amongst the TOP ADVENTURE games around"
-"IceWindale, or whatever its called...Best ADVENTURE game"
-"StarCraft- Biggest ADVENTURE/strategy game"
-"Halo, even better ADVENTURE game than the above ADVENTURE games"
-...and so on...
Those arnt adventure games, I think most people dont know what ADVENTURE games are. Sure some do, but someone said "Morrowind is the best adventure game". Morrowind!!??. Morrowind is RPG!!! as are many other games that ppl have mentioned. Im just so suprised that so many ppl believe all these games are adventure games.
For me adventure games are ONLY: point and click, and the broken sword control type of game...not UT2006 and Command and Conquer type of games!!!
So to answer the question...My favs are: Syberia Series, Monkey Island Series, Moment of Silence, BrokenSword Series and TimeGate:Knights Chase. _________________ Here, take these potions, they might come in handy!!! |
