Pay to Beta Test MMOG's

Irth Online is the latest to use the pay to beta test scheme. They call it release.

First came the mentality that patches are normal and to be expected in single player games. 9 out of 10 games are released too early and patched a dozen times intentionally.

Enter the MMOG version of this practice. Scrape some money and talent together, write some code and neat list of features on a website and ask people to pay for it.

As long as people keep paying for things like this it will only get worse.

We, the gamers, have nobody to blame but ourselves.

I think it's stupid for large companies to do this. If a smaller indie project did something like this I'd be sympathetic as they need the money to push the game, but I still don't like the idea at all.
