Artifacts skill vs. Identify Item Spell

Hello everyone. I never got to finish W8 last spring due to a moving and my computer breaking down. I had to replace the whole system so I'm starting all over again with the game.

My party is a little different this time around. I used my Priest to pick up the Identify Item spell. I've noticed on some unidentified items, at the top it says Skills: Artifacts (or something similar). Does this mean a character with a high artifacts skill is likely to be able to identify this item without using the Identify Item spell?

Thank you.

The artifact skill works automatically when you right click on the item. Yes, a higher artifact skill will mean you need to use the ID skill less often. In case you were considering it, it's generally not advised to put skill points into the artifact skill. The skill goes up on its own pretty well, and casting the spell will boost your caster's skills.

BTW- GO WINGS!

I've never had much success using artifacts such as fairy dust and concussion. They often backfire on me. I figure the artifacts skill needs to be quite high for such powders and potions to be used successfully. But by then my characters are already proficient with their more commonly used weapons/instruments/spells that it's not worth the risk anyway.

If I remember it correctly, then it's not your artifact skill that determines your succes in using a powder or potion at an enemy, but your throwing skill.

Besides I have never put any ekstra skill points in the artifact skill, as it develop fast enough on it's own by trying to identify (Right-click) every object you find yourself.

Unless I'm getting senile (which is distinctly possible), the throwing skill controls the chance of a backfire, while the artifact skill controls the effectiveness (damage and such) of the item.
