What role does strength have in the big picture? If you require 30 strength to use your best weapon and you have 45 strength, do you have added attack or does the extra 15 do nothing more?

The higher your strength, the more damage you do with weapons.

I think I understand what you are getting at. Let us suppose you have 80 strength. Let us now compare your using a weapon that requires 30 strength with one that requires 80 strength. I suspect you are asking if there is any real difference in damage done - because the first weapon doesn't do as much native damage, but you might be providing significant extra damage through additional strength. While with the second weapon, the weapon does more native damage but you have NO extra damage from additional strength.

Is this what you mean?

If so, I find the answer to be that you will do much more damage with the 80 strength weapon. I suspect you DO gain some additional damage (we do not see the actual calculations or damage numbers so it is hard to compare exactly) - BUT I do know you will kill faster with the larger damage weapon.

I think the damage you do with a weapon is calculated like this (don't blame me if it isn't true).

Damage = Native weapondamage + Strength - Armor against weapons.

or

Damage = Native weapondamage + Strength - Strength needed - Armor against weapons.

How the weaponskill fills in I don't know.

Damage = Strength + Weapon - Armor

That's all there is to it.

Higher strength allows bigger weapons.

A sword that requires 20 strength and does 30 damage does 50.

A sword that requires 45 strength and does 70 does 115.

The first sword would do 75 if you had a 45 strength. We have a clear winner in this sheer damage output contest.

Your skills don't add to damage... merely attack speed.

Weaponskill level 1 allows you to properly wield a weapon and execute chains. Weaponskill level 2 adds % to critical hit.

So basically you could train a weapon to level 1 and pump Strength a lot, and then get by on sheer power.

I would say that mastery of ranged weapons matters more than the mastery of melee weapons.

I was surprised when I recently learned that dexterity dosn't add to your bow damage
the way extra strength adds to melee damage.
If you have the Xbow of War it does 110 damage - TargetArrowProtection, regardles of weather your dex is 55 or 100.

Darian, where are you getting that from? If that was true, I wouldn't get hurt in Improved Ore Armor from light crossbows in the OC.
Try starting a new game, buying a short bow and going around trying to kill some scavengers. Now load one of your older games with your dext at 220. You'll be easily killing almost anything in 1 arrow.

I don't think it's Dext+WeapDmg-arrowProt, but dext does play a role in your damage.
I suspect it's something like WeapDmg+str/2-ProtFromArrow

I think that the best way is having as much points of str/dex as it is possible...)) The more is almost better...
