A quarter of a class for EQ2 |
|
There 3 type of Enchanter/Cleric/Monk and so on in each classes. That mean if you are a enchanter and chosen the way of Charm/illusion class then you may not get clarity/speed buffs and vice versa, while another can only either have slow/resist/tash or speed/clarity. (Confused already)
That mean if you are a cleric and chosen the way of Healing then you may not get HP/Armor buffs and vice versa.
No... dont say one of these monk may not get a feign death.
...48 classes? One wizard nuke ice and another nuke fire?.

EQ discussion ---> general MMORPGs forums
Maybe the generic forums title "RPGdot" should be named to "Administration office" or something. _________________

Erm... Hi Wootbish! I'm not entirely sure I get your question though (if it is a question). I'm personally not familiar enough with EQ2 to answer that, but I'm sure someone eill eventually. But... what is your question exactly? _________________ =Proud Father of a new gamer GIRL!=

Well it is a question ; ). What i'm saying is that EQ2 are splitting classes in half (more than half to me) to what EQ classes are now. For instance an enchanter in EQ now can do Charm, Haste, Slow, blur, Root, Clarity (mana regen) and the like.
The question is known that EQ2 is making more classes but instead they are splittling those classes for instant - Enchanter may have the way of illusionist that perhap can have the spells of say slow, root, Clarity. But if you choose the way of Coercer, you may have Charm, Haste, Blur.

That is the points. They are cutting classes in halfs to make more half classes - not good. |

Yup , I understand where you are coming from. EQ2 may have more classes to choose from, but they will be watered down versions of the existing ones in EQ1. Less abilities equals less versatility , fun and strategy. |

From a developer's viewpoint it is probably easier to "balance" watered down classes that have fewer abilities.
The potential for lack of fun ...and variety concerns me however. I probably won't be trying EQ2. I've definitely developed an attitude of "once bitten twice shy" with the MMROPG genre. I'm going to become much more choosy as to what I pick. I sense this attitude is becoming more prevalent amongst fellow MMROPG veterans too. |

Well, I'm of the same mind as you are, Ican, if it means anything. We have to start making choices, as gamers. Basically, as the next couple of years will see many, many new titles come out, the determining factor deciding if I will actually buy a game or not, for me, will be classes in particular.
If a game has classes, I am not interested anymore. At all... Many games are scheduled to come out soon which are skill-based. I think that the past mmorpgs have done the class system to death, and none of them proved they could remove the grinding associated with the XP/Class system. Tedium I can cope with, but grinding is bad. I am not touching EQ2 if it is class based, it's as simple as that. _________________ =Proud Father of a new gamer GIRL!=

Likewise Ekim. I don't care how big the developer/publisher is .... I won't be joining another levelling treadmill/class war either.
EVE Online is a nice example of a "different" system. It is skill based. There are flaws ....but it's a step in the right direction . I guess AC2 also has adopted a similar style. |

Not really, be careful. AC2 is very much a class-based game, even more so that the original was. Although it's true that it is very much more open-ended than most of the other class-based systems out there, you're still far too limited to be able to say that it's a true skill-based system.
You might want to keep your eyes on Middle Earth Online too since it will adopt a skill-based system with time-based advancement similar to Eve Online. Realms of Torment will have skills, and a lot more which I will not go through here.
Classes are outdone, it's time to move on I think... _________________ =Proud Father of a new gamer GIRL!=
