LotR: The Two Towers (GC): Review @ Gaming Nexus

Gaming Nexus smashed up a review of the GameCube version of LotR: The Two Towers, the action RPG based on the movies. They gave it a rather good 8.2 score and came to this conclusion:
Erase everything you know about video games based on movies because Two Towers is out to rewrite the book on the subject matter. While it's not exactly perfect, it's still the best movie-based video game that I've ever played. If you're even remotely interested in the movie or the trilogy you should give this one some serious consideration. It not only serves as an excellent piece of memorabilia, but also serves as one hell of a video game that is packed to the rim with entertainment and excitement.

What a sad review...

Well, not horrible, but insanely inaccurate on two key parts.

quote:
The gameplay, the levels, the graphics, the sounds, everything is absolutely identical. I was a bit disappointed to see this, especially with the Xbox's more 'powerful hardware' I at least expected to see an increase in the quality of the visuals. With the game coming out two months later than the PS2 version I expected to see at least some changes but apparently two months isn't enough time to tinker with some of the game's issues.

The parts in bold are very wrong. Since he's reviewing the NGC version, and has apparently played the PS2/XBox versions (from his comments) he would have noticed a vastly different appearance. The GC version is the only version to run at a near constant 60 fps, doesn't have the engine chop that the PS2 and Xbox port have, nor does the NGC version have that nasty dithering. Hypnos did a magnificant job on the port, while Stormfront took an exact port for the Xbox.

In regards to sound: It is far superior on the NGC. The Xbox, while supporting 4.0 DD, has audio-skipping which is a big problem. It is apparently in both DD and analog. The PS2 sound is muffled down.

Just to clarify on his inaccuracies.

It doesn't change the outcome, if you have 1 version, no need getting another, but that review makes it appear as though all 3 versions are identical, which they aren't.
