Star Wolves: Review @ GameAxis

GameAxis is unimpressed with Xbow's Star Wolves, awarding a score of 6/10 in their review and criticising the "budget roots". Here's a snip on the RPG elements:
The RPG element comes into play before the start of every mission where you get to level up your party of wannabe bounty-hunters by choosing from a skill tree that suspiciously looks like the Diablo 2 skill tree with a font and colour overhaul. Fortunately, the RPG part of Star Wolves fares a lot better than the RTS one. As you progress, you will be able to customise your ships and load them up with better equipment and weapons. All that time spent on the skill tree will also pay off as your characters will then destroy their enemies a lot faster. While watching my fighters duke it out, it suddenly occurred to me that the developers are great fans of Homeworld. How you move your ships and how they engage in combat is a 100 percent recreation of Relic's space title. Imitation is the best form of flattery and Star Wolves gets full marks for this department but zero on originality.

Can't say I agree with that review. For me, Star Wolves was one of the most enjoyable RPG(-ish) titles last year, and though it didn't start out too well, it got better and better as I played it. I'd give it 8/10.

Right with you there Kol. Once you get past the slow start and the HORRID voice acting in the English release there is a great game here. If you are a privateer/Freelancer/Jagged Alliance fan I suggest giving it a go. I equate it to Jagged Alliance with spaceships.
