As for Might Magic, while I really enjoyed 6, 7 and 8, 3DO aint doing themselves any favors by releasing so many bad spin offs. Legends, Warriors, Crusaders and the millions of HoMM 3 have done their reputation no favors.

Might and Magic is my favorite series by far and the Heroes game also rule. Crusaders wasnt made by NWC so you have to blame 3DO for that and maybe Warriors aswell. As for Legends, it's the first FPS I've played and I reckon its pretty good.

Another RPG which everyone seems to hate, was Lands of Lore 2.

I didnt like Lands of Lore 2 but I thought that Lands of Lore was sensational, I really enjoyed playing that one.

Sea Dogs, a fun game that got absolutly no attention. Maybe the sequel will make the breakthrough.

I too was disappointed slightly with Sea Dogs. I got more enjoyment out of Pirates!

I enjoyed Ultima 9, but it was an disappointing end to a brilliant series. The graphics were breathtaking, but it was too linear and the idiocy of the NPCs was unbelievable. I still play U7 today, but I cannot see myself playing U9 in 5 years time.

Another underrated game I enjoyed.

Anvil of Dawn. I always enjoyed the SSI Ravonloft-type games, and I think that this was the last one I played.

Anvil of Dawn was a nice game, but it was not published by SSI, but New World Computing! You are though right about programmers, which were Dreamforge, who did Ravenloft 1 & 2, Menzoberranzan ...

Menzoblablba - I have this one on the forgotten realms archive. It's nice, pretty advanced for the time then...

Yes, simply to have Drizzt Do'Urden in the party was worth to play the game!

Yes, Demise is an underrated RPG. Its the 3d Diablo ala Eye of the Beholder/DUngeon Master game that I still play from time to time. The depth of character development in Demise is equal to alot of the roguelikes... which i like.

Also, Ancient Domains of Mystery, though generally not underrated (but moreso a underplayed niche title) is one of the best rpgs ever. Its relative to Roguelikes but has a streamlined character development that seems pretty balanced that is both skillbased, level based and based on use. Also has a story that isnt so bad. Only thing is it has graphics akin to roguelikes (ascii based) so that in its own will keep away most people.

Another one underrated, is Wizards and WArriors... I actually had alot more fun playing this game than BG2... though Im more a Wizardry fan than an Ultima fan so thats prolly the reason why.

Also, Darkstone I liked alot more than Diablo (though it is a clone of Diablo).

and Daggerfall wins me over for its openendedness ... never has been done ever since.

etc

etc

I liked the Might and Magic series. When I only had a Macintosh, I played Might and Magic 2 for ages. I tried it for the PC a while back, but it didn't have half the features it did on Macintosh.
I also remember a game by MicroProse called BloodNet that I played for quite a while, a cyberpunk vampire RPG.
I also played Darklands for quite a while, and TES: Arena and Daggerfall.

It#s hard for me to keep silent when Daggerfall is mentioned - I still have it on my HD, and while the bugs and the dungeons are driving me insane (arglarglargl), I still enjoy playing it from time to time...

Why should the mighty Elven King remain silent?

I neverminded all the bugs in Daggerfall, as I appreciated what they were trying to achieve. Such an undertaking had never been undertaken before ( excepting Arena), and the sheer amount of possibiltys meant I spent too much time playing it. I tried playing it recently, but could not get sound.

Make Mine Morrowind...

If we turn the question around, and ask for the most overrated game, I have a hard time finding any CRPG's, but looking on the halfbreeds, Black & White comes to my mind. I played the game, for a short time, but got very bored to soon. I can't understand why this game is so popular. Raising a virtual pet, and find some stuff is a bit out of my interest!

Definitely Diablo 2 - never understood that mega hype!

Inventory too small, silly gameplay, stupid save game option and respwaning monsters

Please answer here only, I don't want 100 emails of angry D2 fans in my mailbox

Garrett: , I knew someone would, mention Diablo 2, and I can see on your reaction that you expect a lot of counter criticism, hehe.
I'm not gone a fry your a$$. No way, but I will try to defend the game a little in a calm and civil language

Well I'm not a huge fan myself, but I can actually partly understand why this game is so tremendious popular.
- It's very easy to learn for any age!
- It's instant action, and you can play and leave the game anytime, and get a lot of involvement, no matter how much time you have to play.
- over 1000's of different objects to collect, and even more to create yourself. This is very popular in most games.
- Very funny team player option, not at least because of the very different characters.
- The in between movies are very good.

Actually the expansion has also given the the player a larger coffin, and a many more objects to collect, besides the new "Act" and two new characters.

As for the save features, I think it actually match for this type of action gameplay, where it's all about surviving, and getting stronger, and find exotic objects. Your characters death, really have a consequence, just like the spirit of this game.

The most people who takes some distance for this game, is actually RPG players, maybe because they search for some game moments, that stress there mind a bit, and that's hard to find in Diablo 2

Well, I have a childish love for D2 - and even more so with the expansion pack. You are right, collecting items is 90% of the fun (hey, a sword that refills my mana pool, cool for a paladin who choose to develop multiple attacks).

Talking about overrated RPG's: I don't know one. Most of those that received bashing deserved it. Actually, the hype dies off fast when a bad game is released.

Oh, yep, one comes to my mind: Everquest. I really don't see sense in this game, sorry.

Well, call me old fashioned, but I don't see sense in any MMORPG or online world. I want a story, I want to be THE hero, not one hero, I want no lags and I want to pay for a game only once, not monthly!!!

Regarding MMORPG, I can only agree with Garrett!
