Several questions...New to the forums |
|
I got this game over an year ago but never got to play it for more than few hours (I got to Arnika Road). And now I remembered I actually have the game. So I have a few questions before starting...
1. I got the game in the summer of 2002 and it was in DVD package, now according to my knowledge this is the original european release version with manual. Now what I want to know is that is this true. (I got the game and the cds were labeled 1.2.4 but it came with a manual).
2. What kind of group would be the best to start with? Any race or class suggestions?
3. I remember seeing portrait editor somewhere, but I don't remember the link anymore so could anyone fill me in? |

First off, welcome to the boards. We'll have you loving this game in no time flat.
1- Version 1.2.4 is the latest and greatest. You're all set!
2- The beauty of Wiz8 is that virtually ANY party can be successful if you're willing to work at it. For a rookie, I recommend the following party as a starting point:
fighter (lizzy or dracon)
ranger (hobbit or mook)
priest (rawulf or dwarf)
bard or gadgeteer (hobbit or human for either class) -- this will be your locks-n-traps specialist, so put points into that skill
mage (faerie or elf)
some other melee type of your choice (felpurr samurai, human monk, or dwarf lord make decent choices)
3- I'm not aware of any portrait editor for Wiz8. _________________ =Proud Member of the Non-Flamers Guild=

Because I am also not aware of any portrait editors, I can give you just several advices.
First of all - begining is nearly most difficult part of whole game. Later parts of Arnika Road can be bigest problem for certain parties. If you party survive this, it will survive everything. Generaly nearly all parties can survive it, however it is sometimes very difficult and only for very patient people.
If you want to make your life easy (and it is not always good choice), you can go with powerful (however not able to get many goodies) party:
- 3 strong melee types
- 1 good healer
- 1 good combat mage
- 1 good range type |

1. so my copy is an original wizardry 8 european release
2. I don't want to start with overly easy team, little challenge is welcome.
3. Any stat raising tips?
4. I'm sure this isn't the only Wiz8 forum but is it the biggest (most active)?
5. I know there's a portrait editor for Wiz8 but I just lost the link. I'll post it here when I find it again. |

Stat raising tips? Letting weak seekers or spiders shoot at you over and over when you get to a high enough level that they can't hurt you. Just switch to continueous combat, then go watch your favorite TV show. You can check on your party during commercials to make sure they are okay. _________________ Freeeeeeedom! I don't know if we're the most active, but we're without question the best.
Skill training opportunities: Val's hint is excellent for characters that use shields or have the stealth skill. There's a place in the game that's great for training locks-n-traps, earth magic, alchemy, and wizardry. Mixing potions will boost your alchemy as well as generate a good bit of money. The charm and mindread spells can be used repeatedly to boost psionic, mental, and divinity skills. Always, always keep as many of the 10 out-of-combat buff spells running as you can since casting them will yield a wide variety of magic skill boosts. _________________ =Proud Member of the Non-Flamers Guild=

That would certainly qualify as a challenge. You'd have to get the CoC to have any chance, and surviving that long would be quite the challenge. _________________ =Proud Member of the Non-Flamers Guild=

Play the game on expert... I felt even with 6 people it was too hard until I reached around level 7 or so.
I would say if you want to get the most from the game maybe do four people your first time.
Say a samauri a bishop a bard and a valkrie... That would work well there are other ones but those cover the bases. |

That would be an interesting 4-man, Stamar, but who would be your L&T specialist? _________________ =Proud Member of the Non-Flamers Guild=
