I apologize in advance, thousands have probably asked this question butI still wouldn't mind knowing when the release date is and if it is a realistic one. It is a long shot but does anyone know how Gothic 2 starts and if it is going to be longer than Gothic 1?

It will start with you miraculously reduced back to level 1 with no skills...

I think there are few people knowing this to date. What we know is that it will start outside the barrier...

Hmm strange that you start as level 1 when you are so powerful at the end.

I believe it will be available sometime in the fall of this year ('02). As for how it starts, anybody’s guess. I would like to find out just what he did to get himself thrown into the barrier, maybe we'll get to see were he use to live, what he did before he became the most powerful human inside the barrier.

I hope we can import our old character, but I doubt, considering how powerful he is, that we'll be able to.

Unless it's run as a sequel... as in, you create a character and they start level 30 and the game goes to 50 or 60. Wouldn't make much of a difference, really... a system like this is easy to scale up. give the monsters more hit points, do more damage/have better weapons, have better armor. Then you scale up the characters' armor and weapons and such.

Imagine having a character at the end of Gothic 2 with 4500 hit points and armour with 700 protection from weapons wielding a 1000 damage sword which requires 500 strength. (If you work it out from lvl 1-30 and saying that 30-60 has the same increase in stats these stats should be in the proper ratio)*Sorry if I'm not making any sense*

Yes... but imagine the monsters also having those weapons and armors and even more HP.

Numbers in these type of games are mostly to make you 'feel' good. The excellent Quest for Glory series comes to mind. What did running 500 do better than running 10? less stamina used. Woo. But still, it was much more impressive to see your character decked out at the end of game 5 with 500s in his key skills instead of 50 in game one. You got the impression, even if the fights were just as hard as the first game, that you had made some REAL progress...

I agree with Xen here. I played the Quest for Glory series and you did feel that your character had improved greatly over a period of time. Of course, it helped to have new skills, spells, and special abilities so your character could grow further and become more powerful. I would definately like that in Gothic 2.

I personally don't give a damn what level you start out as, or how powerful you are.

If the world is rich with life and exploration and the story is vibrant, then I'll be happy.

Amen to that.

Still, a little difference in abilities between 'camps' in the second game would be nice. Nothing big to make one camp 'the best' or anything. Just little things.

Ah, Quest for Glory. Brings back some great memories. Played all 5, beat all 5. I have a bit of a problem with 5 though. They said during development that you'd be able to play as Elsa Von Spielburg if you didn't want to play the Hero from the previous games. Then when the game came out, it had been cut and there was no word of it until then and never was there an explanation(probably Sierra forcing it out the door too soon).

I thing in Gothic II the hero is going to enter the portal to The Sleeper's dimension to kill him because that's what he is supposed to do according to the Orc legends(not just throw him in his own dimension). Correct me if i am mistaken pliz.
