If they don't do a Gothic 2 expansion in the US that means they don't think there are enough people who would buy it to be worth the effort in translating it and distributing it. I don't know how well G2 sold in the USA, but I do know that I was able to pick up a copy for like $10 dirt cheap 4 or 5 months ago. So it can't have been too stellar. 
What would worry me is if they decide we're not worthy of Gothic 3...
