AC2 Beta crashes before I can get in

Ok, I installed the game, patched, made a character, enter the warp hole says I see a gem in front of me, and then the game crashes and goes boom. Doesn't matter if I use the lowest setting or highest, windowed or full screen, doesn't matter what server I select. Tried to make multiple characters, no luck. Am I doing something wrong?

Here's my system:

ATI Radeon 8500 (latest 6178 drivers)
AMD Athlon 1700 XP
Shuttle AK31 rev 3.2 (via KT266A)
Windows XP (service pack 1)
512 MB pc 2100 DDR Ram
Direct X 9.0 beta

Any clue what is wrong?

I crashed as well until I disabled "Full scene antialiasing" "Use Pixel Shaders" and "Use Fastest refresh rate"

It's the only thing I can think of. Might or might not be your problem.

Have you tried using DirectX 8.1 instead of the BETA 9? Using a BETA of directX is never a very good idea

Provis: I'll try that.

Ekim: No, because you have to reformat to get rid of it (the DX 9 beta) but I would think Microsoft would want them to have the game compatible with DX9 since it's coming out soon and anyhow it hasn't given me any problems on anything else. *shrug*

Yes... But we ARE talking about Microsoft, right?
It wouldn't be the first time they do something stupid. Not to mention that the game is in BETA and there's no garantee new tecnhnologies will work on it yet. I had to roll back my detonator drivers for my GF3 card to 30.82 because the latest 40.somthing just won't work with the game... so...
