Argh, help! I bought this game hoping for honest-to-goodness in depth roleplay, where there is a lots of NPC interaction. Well, so far I can't interact with anyone, because I can't remap the keys on my keyboard!
I even deleted the settings for forward, back, strafe left and right, and set them for edsf (e-forward, d-back, s-left, f-right), which is what I remap all the first person type of controls in all games where I use a keyboard. Heck.. I don't mind using a keyboard, I was weened on the KB with CRPGS!
After setting it as stated, straft left works, and backwards I think works. Forward makes me run in circles to the right, and strafe right (f) zooms me in on my character, but I don't move. I've rechecked the keyboard mappings, and it did keep my settings. Does anyone know what I'm doing wrong? I have a standard setup, P4 2Ghz Dell with Dell keyboard (standard, not a funky zillion key and button or un-natural kb). GeForce III (graphics seem fine though).
Also, I have an intellimouse optical.. and I'm wondering what does the mouse do? Mine seems like it pans around the world (although the keyboard seems faster, and I don't see a way to speed up mouse reaction), but that's about it. The wheel does zoom in and out. Does it do anything else? Can it? The book unfortunately doesn't mention the mouse at all.
Any help would be appreciated! Thanx.

Most people here use unmodified alternative controls:
-mouse: look + aim
-movement asdw
-inv. tab
-weapons 1-0
-plus ctrl, shift, alt, space
I canīt help you with the mapping problems. Maybe somebody else can.
I heard the mousewheel is used for scolling through menus and inventory.
LMB = ctrl or enter, depending on the situation
RMB = Esc (maybe some more)
The control scheme is quite simple. Whatever you want to do, the first thing to try is focus him/it and press LMB + forward.
Weapons and magic have to be equipped first. Remember the hotkey, press the hotkey (1-0), press (and sometimes hold) LMB + forward to use it.
Mouse sensitivity can be changed in the gothic.ini, the BloodDetailLevel also.
The mouse isnīt mentioned in the manual because Gothic was developed for keyboard-only play. So itīs no surprize if the keyboard seems to be fast. |
