Correct way to uninstall Gothic and 1.08k patch? |
|
I have the English version of Gothic and the 1.08k patch installed. Both show up as separate items in my Add/Remove Programs control panel in Windows XP. What is the correct way/order to uninstall them? Do I uninstall the patch entry first, then the main game entry? If I uninstall the patch, will it mess up when I try to unstall Gothic itself?
Thanks for any help! |

It shouldn't matter, but do the patch first and then the game. As the patch is an attachment to the game, it will be a linked file to game files. Also go in and do a search for JoWood Files after you do the uninstall. I found them still there and preventing me from a new install of the game. _________________ =Member of the Nonflamers Guild=

Hi, thanks for the reply. When you say to also go in and search for JoWood files, do you mean search the registry or search the hard drive?
Any other confirmations about uninstalling the patch first? I wanted to check since I have some older patched games cause problems if you install them in the wrong order.
Thanks again. |

How to manually uninstall Gothic...
stop here if you are not familar with Windows and regedit
- Run RegEdit.exe and goto HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall
- search for 'gothic' - you should find an subkey where 'DisplayName' = 'Gothic'
- remember the GUID (the name of the subkey you found - {BBF10B37-4ED3-11D5-A818-00500435FC18} )
- delete the subkey you found
- delete the folder [programs]\InstallShield Installation Information\[GUID]
If you installed the patch - do the same for 'DisplayName' = 'Gothic_Patch'
Finally delete the gothic folder and the entries in the startmenu.
Hope that solves the problem |
