Potion Keys

Walkthrough states:

quote:
Quick Potions [usePotionKeys=1]
This will enable a sort of quick potion feature, where you can assign a key to either healing or mana potions, and drink them without the animation in the middle of combat. Some might feel this is too easy, but there are so many situations in Gothic where things suddenly go the opposite way of what you had planned, and quaffing a potion to get away instead of loading saves you a lot of trouble. Once this is enable, you can set up the keys in 'additional keys' in-game. The potion used is always the strongest one. Also found in the GAME bracket.

Where is the 'additional keys' setup mentioned? How do you set a key to a mana potion? Please be specific. There is no "Additonal Keys" in the Options menu. I have the value of the of usePotionKeys set to 1.

Thanks.

Yes. I knew that part. But I didn't know how to assign a key to them. It turns out that in the English version you can't assign the keys to the potions. But you can use the H for health potion and the P for mana potion if you haven't assigned to them to anything else, providing you have done the thing in the .ini file.

Fun is in the eye of the beholder. Restoring over and over is not my idea of a fair fight. Since there is no turn based fighting, it is almost impossible to win with a low level character without walloping the opponent and running away far enough to lose the chaser and buff up. Then run back to find the creature again. Is that supposed to be fun? I'll take the H and P key anyday. That makes it fun!

Quick Potion

There is an option in English version to assign keys. After you activate the Quick Potion in Gothic.ini, go into the game and into options, to key configuration, whatever its called. All the way at the bottom is something called 'More keys' something like that. Thats where you assign the new keys. I put 'R' for Health and 'T' for Mana, because they are close to my wasd movement set up.

Not true. There is no "more keys" anywhere in my English version of the game. Is there a patch out yet? Maybe I need a patch.

On the Options menu you choose Controls to cofigure keys. There is no "more keys" section in Controls. There is no "more keys" on the option menu itself. There is an option for Extended Configuration, but no "more keys" in that. I went through every selection on the Options menu. There is no "more keys" section where you can configure these keys. Not only is there no "more keys" button, there are no buttons for configuring the potions.

I learned that the game was hard coded for the P and H keys from another thread on this forum. Others agree, there is no way to configure the English version of the game.

You get the more keys option if you don't enable gothic 1 controls

Ah...yeah it is there. I'm not blind. I'm not lieing.

Let me tell you it a bit slower.

You start the game, and in the 'Main Menu' you choose 'Options'. After selecting 'Options' you choose 'Controls'. In 'Controls' all the way at the bottom next to the 'Back' text option, there is a text option called 'More Keys..'

In the 'More Keys' you find...dun dun dun...more keys such as:

Attack Left Q
Attack Right E
Parry S
Lock Target F
Mana Potion R
Health Potion T

Obviously from these options you can come to the conclusion that the keys are not "hard coded" in.

So, yes there is a way to configure the English version of the game.

Maybe YOU have the Gothic 1 controls enabled, which disables this "More Keys..." option.

Re: Quick Potion

Honest. There is no "more keys" button next to the Back button in the Controls Screen. There is no button next to it. And if I scroll past it I end up back at the top of the menu.

I guess we can stop arguing about this. I just want people to know that despite the fact that they can't find the "more keys" button, they can use H and P to drink potions in battle without all the hastle. I like that.

Hmm. I just thought of something. Perhaps it has to do with which default set of keys I started with. I forget. I have my keys configured very differently than either default set, so I don't want to try each default.

FYI: I use the Page Up key to walk foreward and the Page Down key to walk backward. I have a five button mouse, so I map the left thumb onto Page Up and the Right Side button to Page Down. That gives me complete mouse control for movement. Turning the mouse turns me right or left. I don't have to use WASD at all. If I did I wouldn't be playing:)
