How do you play the game - no manual

well - i had heard about this game a little on the morrowind forum - and i decided to buy it.

and to my suprise - there is absolutely no manual or help on the game. this is the first time i've gotten a game with no manual - and if you ask me that's pretty poor.

anyway - i've looking in the game settings and checked the key config - and for the most part it works - however some things don't

i just started - and i'm just walking down this little hill going to some camp - i've found some arrows, a pick-axe and a sword - however there is no way to equip them. i open my inventory - i try every single button and nothing does anything. i left click, right click - space bar, enter, w, e, q, a, etc, etc

is there a post, or a page with detailed instructions on playing the game? the gothic installation doesn't have instructions - and all the sites are german - or poorly made english ones.

There is Jeremy's Gothic FAQ on GothicDot that explains the whole game. http://gothic.rpgdot.com/index.php?hsaction=10062&game=gothic&l1=Walkthrough&infoID=33 As for equiping stuff, hold the action (most people use ctrl) key and press up when you're on them in your inventory.
Another good walkthrough is here: http://www-personal.umich.edu/~airyn/gothic/

Welcome to the boards!

Be happy you didnīt have to read the manual. Itīs a piece of crap. JemyMīs FAQ is clearly better.

I suggest you use the FAQ only for reference. Donīt use the included walkthrough for now.

Controls are very simple. The 3 things you need to know:

1. trade
The trade interface sucks. You have to move stuff to the middle and than match it. Look it up in the FAQ.

2. combat
Combat is about your charīs skills & equipment plus precise timing by you. You can use combo attacks if you do the next blow exactly when the current blow is finished. The FAQ chapter is highly recommended
Weapons and spells have to be equiped before they can be used.

3. everything else
(CTRL or LMB) + forward does almost everything! Equip, talk, attack, activate, pick up, .... very simple.
Alternative controls (ASDW + mouse) are recommended for right-handed players.

All this takes 3 * 5 minutes to learn. After a few hours it will become second nature and youīll appreciate how fast the controls are and how much control you have.
