Gothic 1 and 2 cutscenes

I was wondering how do they make this cutscenes ?

(I don't want to spoil anyone's game so I won't tell which cutscenes can be seen in gothic but I think that most of all know what am I talking about)

Which programs did PB use to make this cutscene ?

3D Studio Max for cutscenes ? Didn't know you can do that

Thanks for info Daedalus. I hoped it would be some more "accesible" program for us mere mortals who hasn't yet reached the age of eighteen.

Yes, I think they´re made with MAX.
IMHO the cut scenes in Gothic are below the standard of the rest of the game. It would be better to do what many other devs -including Blizzard- do: outsource them to a specialized graphics studio.

Yup, Blizzard's cutscenes always looked the best. They really are the masters of this art.

What art? Paying money to another studio for doing the cut scenes?

I know that the cutscenes aren't the best in Gothic but they were good enough for those few seconds that they played. There was no "really" long cutscene in Gothic or Gothic II.

gothic is mostly about playing it not watching some cutscenes so they don't have many nor longlasting

but they were made by the game devs not by some other ppl who specialice on cutscenes + what i liked about the cutscenes really much was that the Cutscenes werent much better than Gothic world itself i mean the characters looked the same like u see in Gothic 1 or 2 not cropped very very real looking ppl .

good one
not sure tough who made that cutscenes but... ALL of the blizzards cutscenes looked great, from Starcraft to Warcraft III, all of them. But no idea who made them, even if it was an off-blizzard pro studio, I don't have anything against it. it looked awesome and that's what it matters.

All of the cutscenes in Gothic and Gothic 2 are viewed in-game using the Bink video player which is embedded into the game/system. The Bink player is the fastest true-colour codec currently available. It can uncompress and play files "on-the-fly" It is used in lots of good quality games of today, It is a video player in its own right, the downloadable version (1.6c) is free to use, it comes with "smacker" version (4.1f) it can play and configure (mix) sound files, media files and video files of various types, it can blend/swap/batch process and many other good things, so:- - - - :-

knowing this, you could make your own/home video of "whatever"- - process it with the Bink player, does not matter how long it is, rename it, put it in the gothic folder, and - - - - - it will play at the right moment in the game, now thats what i call "true manipulative video"

Swwwweeeeeeeeeettttt....... That could be lots of fun!

Anyway, my two cents is: Yeah, the cutscenes aren't great as far as image quality goes, but the cinematography is pretty good. You can tell that the makers have talent when it comes to directing a good story. Especially is this evident in the opening cutscene for G2. The way the title comes across the screen... the dude getting crushed by the tower... for 'in-house' it was well done no matter how you slice it.

True, altough the cutscenes had a lack in image quality, it didn't really matter. they were made very good. I will never forget the scene with Uriziel in Gothic 1, that one was really funny, and cool

yeah that was great, punging uriziel in the oremounth never forget that one oke the qaulity is not uber-graphics but because of that it feels a lot more of the game flows over in to the cutscene
