Object permanence?

I really haven't tried it out myself, but does anyone know to what lengths objects are permanent in this game? Can we leave them on the floor, in chests/boxes, sell to merchants and expect to be able to recover them later? I know you can recover lost quest items at the font in the temple, but what about regular (non-quest) items?

As far as I know and have seen, atleast merchants keep the stuff you sell to them. Don't know about eq permanence between modules, though. I think they will disappear then...
Dropped items seem to stay too, I usually dropped all standard ammunition to the temple to fetch up later if I needed it.. Stayed there for the whole ch. 1
