@nd time around Ninja vica fighter

My Ninja sadly was my worst character. I am thinking og having two fighters in the front line. My fighter never needed help and he kicked ass.
I would consider a Monk or Samuri but are they as good??

I am also changing my mage to Psonic.....I want mindread
Iam changing my rogue for a bard because I think this game is ment to have bard....might be wrong.

Interested in ideas and races for my choices.

Oh definitely a priest and ranger Ilove em

Ninjas are notoriously hard to properly develop.

Two fighters will probably deal more damage than any other combo, but you lose several things doing it. First, having two of the same class means you don't get as much fun developing the different classes. You'll never pick up any spells, and you aren't likely to see any instant kills.

Monks are my favorite class in Wiz8, so I'm biased, but I think a monk is more valuable than a second fighter. In fact, in some of my more experimental parties, I'm using a monk as my #1 tank. The extra attacks, instant kills, and psionic spells are quite nice.

As for races, human monks aren't bad because of the additional stamina they get versus some of the other races that make decent monks (when you start hitting 9 times every round, it really eats the stamina). I've used the same rationale when I changed from a hobbit bard to a human bard (music is remarkably tiring). Mooks and hobbits make good rangers. I like rawulfs for priests. I don't remember what I used for my psionic- I ended up trashing that party pretty early on (not the psionic's fault).

Standard disclaimer- There's no party (class/race/whatever) that cannot be successful so try whatever strikes your fancy.

Monk vica Ninja fighter

If i choose a monk visa a fighter would I get mindread?? If so i minght stay with a mage visa psonic.

i agree two fighters might be boring but a fighter seldom needs help and the only spell my ninja used was to heal himself. what a waste and it made the fight s more difficult. Insead of doing damage he was healing himselg and as for instint kills he seldom got any when it was needed.

Monks use the psionic spellbook, which means they get access to all the same spells as the pure psionic caster, although they will be 4 levels behind (monk doesn't start getting magic until level 5).

My first winning party: Liz fighter, human monk, hobbit ranger, rawulf priest, human bard, and faerie mage

Pretty similar to what you're looking at, eh?

Ninjas are difficult to start with, but there are getting better and and better with their critical skill and their super armor class in high levels. But i have to admit, they are not so overpowered in Wizardry 8 as in Wizardry 7.

My first party had 3 tanks: ranger, monk, lord.
My second one has 4: samurai, ninja, monk, valkyrie.

I kept the monk because it's the only fighter with the psionic spellbook, which I was looking for to balance my party. In terms of pure damage, he was my second best fighter. My lord did more damage and had more kills, but I had him using cursed weapons so he had no distance attacks and had to rely on spells for distance combats. My monk could throw well.

The second time around, things aren't so clear cut yet. My samurai is leading in kills, but this is due to the fact that he's slower: he's getting the last shots in after the speedy ninja and monk have already weakened the opponents. So far, the valkyrie is lagging behind the other 3 fighting wise (but is ahead spell wise). And I agree with Dteowner, the ninja's tough to develop - but I knew that before I started, which is why I simplified things by having a gadgeteer to eliminate having to develop my ninja's thieving skills.

My personal style would be NOT to have two pure fighters. For a first time through party, if I were going to do 2 fighters, then I'd probably have the party to be: fighter, fighter, ranger, bard or gadgeteer, priest, mage. You lose the psionic spell book, which you'd get back by substituting a monk for the fighter. But then, hey, you're back to the demo (& Dteowner's) original party if you're using the bard. Hmmm.

Of course, you could go for a party with 6 lizardmen fighters.

The "Monk" is quite a good fighter in W8, but he is very uninterest regarding equipment, because he almost don't/can't use anything, unless he is willing to give up his special Monk abilities (unarmed combat).
But playing 2 fighters up front may also be to uninspired for gameplay. Go for the diversity and make your second melee fighter a Valkyrie! or Samurai!

Actually, I thought it was a good combination. Mages can't wear any good armor and neither can faeries, so you really don't feel the penalty as much. The armor bonus is nice in the beginning of the game when mages are hard to keep alive. The mana regeneration isn't too bad, either, particularly if you want to cast lots of spells without resting too often. I would recommend a conversation with Antone (armorer in Arnika) early on to begin work on some custom armor, though.

I'd recommend one. Mine was a legacy from Wiz 6 & 7, who happened to be female. I suggest you make yours female, so you can maintain her stamina with items. And the mana regeneration bonus definitely helps. She didn't suffer much from faerie's lack of armor & weapons.

Faerie ninjas rock! It's true, though, that they start out slowly, but if you develop them properly they're awesome. And the Cane of Corpus is their reason for being.

If you haven't played the game much, something like a samurai might be better. They start off stronger than a ninja or monk.

OTOH, ninja and monk really rock in the late game.

I'd happily play an entire game with 4 characters: 2 faerie ninjas and 2 faerie bishops, but it seems a lot like cheating, there's so much power there. And the little suckers are hardier than they seem.
