You can't legally download Ultima 7 & Serpent Isle. However, the copy protection answers were released on the internet by Origin, and so they can legally be obtained on a few websites maintained by various Ultima Dragons. Just do a Google-search.

Really? Do you have a link to a press release from Origin stating this? I'd be interested in reading it.

That I do not. As I understand it, it had something to do with a snafu concerning documentation when they first released (or perhaps re-released) the famous Ultima Collection.

A snafu? I have the collection version. The docs in it are fine and contain all the answers to the questions in the games. There's no reason why they'd have to release the answers on the net.

This would, I admit, be easier to explain if I could rememer all the details, but as it is, I can't. I'll check. *goes away*

*comes back*
Okay, details are admittedly sparse. The best indication I could find is this:

quote:

In this page you will find the answers to all the copy protection answers in the whole Ultima series. I compiled this information on Thursday 29th August 2002, for the comfort of those who have legal copies of the games and either misplaced their copy protection answers or whatever. I understand that these answers are legal, because they can be found on Origin's own website.

From:http://www.shiftedphase.com/~dino/ultima/uinfo/general/copyprot.php

Now, Dino is a pretty straight-and-narrow kind of guy, well known in the Ultima community. He's pretty scrupulous and honest, so it is not only likely but in fact almost certain that he's right on this.

Origin must have released the documents at some point, and I thought it was related to an error made with the Ultima collection — one version of it might've shipped without the answers?

I guess I'll direct my question to the owners of the copyright. I'll post the answer as soon as they respond.

EDIT: Alright, the EA guy who answered back recommended requesting a manual and they'd send you one. He didn't recommend going to a website for the information.

This site is hosted (and maybe even created) by EA/OSI: http://www.uo.com/archive

Anyone can find a walkthrough, including the copyright answers here: http://www.uo.com/archive/ultima7/index.html

The first time I played through U7 it was with the Ultima Collection. The electronic map they provide is of such poor quality - I had to use a cheatguide from gamefaqs to get through.

I have the same collection. I never had to touch the map. All the copyright answers were on page 23 of the manual, including all of the possible Longitude and Latitude answers.
