multiplayer questions

i still have dial-up (BLEG!!), and i want to play a good multiplayer rpg, i was told by the guys on the general CRPG board that NVN was right up my alley, has anyone played online with dial up? i heard you can only have 3 characters and a dm, is this true? does this take any fun out of it? thanks....

It... depends
If you want to host online games in NWN, then I would strongly advise against it if you're on a dial-up connection, and the limitations you heard are probably right.
But, when connecting to a game that is hosted by someone that has high bandwith (cable, or DSL connection) you will have absolutely no problem. We have regular games in the NFG every week and I remember some people connecting with dial-up modems that didn't have any problem at all.

So, in short, don't host any games and you'll have a perfectly great time!

EDIT: just want to clarify one more thing that sometimes people don't know: you can also DM a remote game, in other words a game that you are not hosting. Sometimes people think that you need to be the host to be DM, that's not true at all. So even on a dial-up you could even be DM if someone with good bandwith is hosting the game.
