BGII's battle scene is awkward...

I'm just curious if anyone else has had a hard time getting used to the battle portion of Baldur's Gate II??? I, personally, don't like it. I was hoping it would be as fun as Diablo II, but it's not. It really lacks...testosterone.

Because BGII is not Diablo2.

I like to use my extra-large minigun to mow down truckload of baddies in Serious Sam .

And because D&D is not... erm... Diablo system Battles are supposed to be different, and D&D offer much more tactics with this regard... Another question is how tactics is implemented in BG2.

EDIT: And BTW there is different fun in Diablo and BG2 battles. Each one can be interesting and cool. Depends on player's mood, I think

If you think it lacks something you haven't fought mages and you are using the space bar too much.

Yes, D&D combat is dull. It evolved from a war game, where the thrill is the victory not the fight.

Actually, I barely used the space bar.

Good job then.

Yes, if you're used to playing Diablo or D2 then action in BG2 is a crawl. Throw debuffs at mages while the fighters autoattack and anyone up to and including the end boss goes down hard.

BG2 is about the story. There are a few fights that are tougher than others (the dragons if you're level 12 or less, the Twisted Rune, mind flayers unless you cheese 'em) but overall it's not particularly hard. And there's nothing that a web spell, cloudkill, and three fireballs won't handle.

Yeah the fighting in D&D games is very different from Diablo (or D2). But like strathony said, it depends on the mood. Like when you're angry & want to kill anyone you see, you play Diablo2 or a FPS game. But when you need to think or work, you'll definitely choose a D&D game.
