The correct ending is sort of a trap. You fight another sceleton mage and loot the remainings. You find close to nothing but earn ~15.000 xp.

The book/s are not in chest.
What quest does it ask you to do now?
each book will only appear once you find the previous book.
When you find the last book, outside of the NC, then it will hint you go back to where you found the first book.

nonono. there's a corpse in a mushroom patch at the bottom of the dungeon. it has chromanin 6 on it. then the skeletons spawn.

Read it. It will give you a hint to find the next book. It will also cause the next book to spawn.

You know where Ur-Shak was? There is a big tower near there. At the top is the next book. An entire walkthrough for the quest is also contained in the Gothic FAQ. There is even a map on the site here, showing where the books are.

I always wondered why you could get up there if there was nothing there...
