The Classes, is there realy a difficulti hidden?

I'm playing Gothic II quite a lot these days. And i've came to a maybe dumb solution but ye, u'll see.
I have not played all charackters fully out so i cant realy tell whos the best or something, but im wondering on one single thing thats been irritating me the last hours , here it comes;

(Light?) Militia Armor = 40 both armor and 5 magic fire res.
(Light?) Mercenary Armor = 15 both armor and 0 magic fire res
Isnt that little wierd? in the same lvl Militia have 25 more res + 5 more res in magic fire.

And here comes the wierdest part.
Medium Mercenary armor got 45 both and i dont remember resistance or magic resistance but it doesnt matter. That means that the Militia armor is just 5 armor under and its a class under. If we venture into the knights armor then you'll get far over the Mercenary armor.

My point is that it seems to be easier playing to be paladin because of the high armor (and immunity to fire almost :O), While mercenary is quite hard. Anyone got the same oppinion and can tell me a little about the mages?

Best regards,
FimbulWinter.[/b]

Mages are, as in most RPGs, hard in the beginning and easy at the end. Paladins are easy because they are strong fighters and they can use a few quite effective spells. Mercenaries are pure fighters.

Paladins get better armor, but Merc get better weapons, get more learning points to use for weapons skills (because they can't use magic runes, so they won't learn anything for magic).

Mages on the other hand, start as weak novices until they reach a certain level and then they are the most powerful of the three classes.

Rangers which almost no one plays, is very difficult at the beginning, but may prove very useful once mastered, along with dexterity, which allows you to be a good thief too.

Didn't the mercs have more armor types too than the paladin? Mercs had 4 armor types while paladins had 3 armor types, and I don't really agree on the weapon thing. Paladins 2x blessed 2 handed sword is really strong and the dragon hunters 2handed dragonslayer is only a bit stronger.

I must agree that it's really easy to get trough the game with the paladin becuase they have such incredible spells against the undead and their armor is really strong.

Game is made so that as a paladin it will be easier for newbies also.
Mercenaries are seond and Mages are hard for starting with them.
