ARX FATALIS 2 in pre-production |
|
In an <a href="http://www.warcry.com/scripts/news/view_news.phtml?site=15&id=3689" target="_blank">interview with Warcry</a>, Arkane Studios' game designer Julien Roby publicly announced, that Arkane Studios are working on Arx 2 already - despite the fact, that no publisher has been found yet. The interview holds other valuable information, but this seems the most important to - let's hope Arkane can secure a godo deal asap. Here's the part from the interview:<ul><i>Final question, then - What's next for Arkane Studios? Are you planning a sequel to Arx - something most Arx players have been clamouring for - or are you on to other things?
<br>
<br>Well there nothing official right now because we haven't got a publishing deal yet, but it won't be a real secret if i tell you we're working on the pre production of a game called.. Mmmm.. i don't remember.. but i think the game name ends with "2"</i></ul> |

@Danicek: This is from the interview:
"The American Market is our main market with the German one. About Arx sales: if you know them, can you send us an email and give us the sales figures please ? We've been trying to get the numbers with no success.
I've already told the financial gap that we felt in because of the poor promotion in the US, moreover, despite very good an positive reviews many people still haven't heard about Arx Fatalis. We've got some mails from players telling us the game was not even on the shelves of their local shop.. some times the shop had received it but it
was lying in the storage room and even the shop keeper didn't know about "a game called Arx Fatalis". Believe me it's really a hard situation for us.
Our game was really well received, critacally acclaimed but, due to a "near to ZERO marketing plan", the game stays unknown to many people.."
Also, if the game would have sold good, JoWood would have signed them again...I guess. |

But why should Arkane sign a publishing deal with JoWooD? Whoever publishes Arx 2, can it get any worse? _________________ Webmaster GothicDot |

Another option for Germany is:
-self publishing
-distribution via a service provider (for example Koch Media, DTP or NBG)
-hire a specialized agancy for the PR
Of course I cannot assess if this makes any sense commercially. _________________ Webmaster GothicDot |

Marketing and publicity seems beyond JoWood. I have never seen any for either Arx or Gothic (1 or 2) in this country. No-one here has heard of the games, even the people who sell them. This is ridiculous when games like LOTR get hyped to death. SOMETHING NEEDS TO BE DONE. The 3 best games I've played in the last 12 months were Gothic, Arx and DD. Only Arx was available to purchase in this country. The only way I knew anything about any of these games was because I visit here everyday. Dev's spend years producing brilliant games that deserve to be played by millions of people and the publishers let them down. No wonder they're in financial trouble. Don't they have any business sense or knowledge!!!! Pity Bill Gates doesn't play RPG's _________________ If God said it, then that settles it!

corwin...amen brother! it is not just australia...there is no publicity/marketing for arx or gothic2 in usa either...the clerk at eb had to fetch my copy of arx from the storeroom because they weren't even putting it on shelves...stupid...hope arkane finds a publisher this time who realizes what a great game they've got and knows how to market it... _________________ long-time lover...part time space traveler |

I only hope they test the game fully this time. I never finished arx because of a stupid bug that prevented me from entering the door to the last battle. This sux.
I hope they design arx2 in such way that no items are mandatory to finish the game. I liked Arx Fatalis very much and probably will play it again some time.
