How important is Lester?

I've run into the bug that another person on these forums has where Lester's become totally unresponsive. I've recently joined the Sect camp and have played through the part where he directs you to the guy in the temple who gives you that stone quest. Without any spoilers, yes or no, will I need Lester again, or should I start back from an earlier save game?

oh about lester...
u will need him later on
dont worry about lester not goin back to the front
go to sleep for a day and he will prob be back at the front
besides you got nothing to do with him after u join the camp
