Nival Interactive Acquired By Ener1 Group |
|
Blue's News is reporting that Russian's largest game developer Nival Interactive ('Silent Storm' and many many others) has been acquired by U.S.-based Ener1 Group. In case you were a fan of Nival's PC games there's some pretty bad news in the announcement as it states "...Ener1 Group plans to integrate Nival Interactive’s creative studio of 140 artists, designers and programmers with its US-based video gaming interests to develop next generation console and wireless games...". No mention of further development for the PC at all... |

This is really bad. Nival already presented us with great titles, all for PC. SS was a great (and quite good) surprise. Now, with a new "boss", new objectives and even new location (it is said that Sergey Orlovskiy, CEO and founder of Nival Interactive is going to move to a new studio, in Florida), I just see that really good franchise going down, along with all the good ideas they eventually had for PC games.
I just hope that they'll only split the team and continue with the good job in two different fronts, PC and Console. They are already developing HOMM5, which is a solid title and something that seems quite fit for Nival, looking at the previous games, I doubt they'll cancel it.
Let's wait and see...

As far as I understand, nothing is being cancelled, all ongoing projects (Heroes of Might & Magic V and Nightwatch, since I am not aware of other ongoing Nival projects at the moment, though they must have, since it is quite a huge studio, with 4 separate teams) are going to se release.
According to a responce by somebody at Nival to an angry fan's e-mail, which was posted on another forum, the PC division also stays.
The whole situation is rather similar to the one where UK based studio Creative Assemby, known for its Total War games, annouced its purchase by Sega, together with an action adventure spinnoff to the TW games. Only, Nival have not yet announced any console games.
Btw, accourding to what I read somewhere else, this Energ1 group is controlled by some Russian oligarch. |
