Problem - No Voices!!!

Hi,

Just qot a problem when running oblivion. In the cell, when the other prisoner talks, and I press Esc, or tab, (i.e. I interrupt them), then when I go back to game, there mouthes are moving, subtitles are on, but no voice is coming out...if I dont interrupt them, the finish their speech, but when I do, no further voices are heard in general. This goes for the guards aswell.

Any advice???

Thx

If it happens only in case of this talking prisoner (and not for other people), simply avoid pressing ESC during this few seconds.

So far, for the prisoner, and for the guards and the emperor.

So it is worse.

I have not heard about similar problem from anyone else, so I don't know what might be wrong. Did you try to reinstall?

I've never heard about such sound card. I would check for updated drivers if I were you. This the only thing that comes to my mind.

@Oric,

Re: "I believe it is a conexant AMC"

....i thought that was the Audio Modem Codec..?...a combination set (AMC97) sound......so maybe your modem audio driver is somehow crossed or missed with the main sound driver....i'm not sure but sounds like a three-in-one setup, strange...on auto' install of the chipset drivers (mobo?) they usually allocate themselves correctly? (providing there are sufficient resource spaces in the system memory.

I would re-check the chipset driver version and re-install the drivers after confirming the direct-x diagnostics, see if the microsoft device also enables the sound device in direct-x diagnostics.

good luck.

It's been reported that a lot of sound problems can be fixed via turning down the sound hardware acceleration in Windows XP's control panel. I have a German version of XP so can't really tell you the exact tab/button descriptions but basically you go to 'Control Panel' - 'Sound/Audio Devices' - 'Advanced Settings' (the advanced settings under 'Speaker Setup' so the 2nd one from top) and then you'll see a slider for 'Hardware Acceleration'. Move it down a notch and try again. If the problem persists then move it down another notch and try again etc. ... Hope that helps .

yup, for the record: if anyone else is having sound trouble in Oblivion, try tuning the sound accelerator down...it worked for me!!!

Thx all.
