For my latest mage game i played around with:
lightning- because it looks cool
wave of death-because amazing area spell
rain of fire-another anazing area spell for less mana
death to undead-crushes undead
wave of ice-freezes everyone's bodies
light healing-because it's less mana costly so you dont have to waste mana
summon golem-very magic resistant

light healing-because it's less mana costly so you dont have to waste mana <----------- this spell  and some fireballs heheh |

Wave of death. The animation is much better in Gothic 2. Love the tremors afterwards. I'm disappointed with ball lightning though.

summon skeleton and army of darkness owned everything thru the game. i might used rain of fire some too.
My highest weapon skill was 10 and i think i had a str of 25 after the end encounter=P |

Well, i used teleport runes. I get so caught up in playing a sword slinger and bow flinger I rarely use magic. maybe I will check some out to watch the cool effects

alright, how did you kill dragons. I know we didnt have 5th or 6th circle magic yet but what spells where used. I had an interesting combo:
I would summon a golem before fighting and go talk to the dragon and skip it's crap because i've beat the game before, Then my golem would go right after that pathetic worm. He's mearly a distraction. His high magic resistance had him last about 2min. So while he's fighting i'd go to the dragon's back and lightening him to hell!
