GRAPHICS: 7
GAMEPLAY: 9
CONTROLS: 4
BUGLESS: 2

Graphics are very impressive. I think they did a great job doing the textures and the high res polygons.

Gameplay is very good. It truely feels like you are there and are a part of world. I would have scored this a 10 but it's missing some real components to make you feel like you're there. Some one else mentioned that although NPCs can sit down, you cannot. I agree with this, this should have been implemented. If I get a phone call, I can have my guy sit down, you know makes it feel like he's resting. Also, runs kind of funny.

Controls are fun once you get use to them but they are kind of a problem. They feel strange and not really what you would use for keys. You can define keys, but a lot of actions CANNOT be changed. This makes the game feel kind of strange, and many people have complained of the controls so I don't need to go on. It is fun though once you get the hang of it.

Bugless is not what this game is about. Being so vast I'm sure it's easy to miss a few bugs, however this game has bugs that can destroy your entire game later. The biggest bugs in this game are the ones that do the most damage. Script bugs for quest, npc scripts, etc. can sometimes forget to "flag" and stay 0 or 1. Sometimes you can play beyond this, however maybe 8 hours, or days later you'll need to talk to an NPC but he won't talk to you cause the bug with that NPC a few days back. Oh what? Don't have a saved game that far? LOL, have fun starting over.

Overall I enjoyed the game. Wasn't as big as I thought it was. Felt like Ultima IX with the fog disable hack on. You could see all the other cities from Lord British's Castle. Same thing here, you can cover the entire map if you run in under 15/20 mins.

I would recommened this game however simply cause it's another game in the right step. Like Ultima IX, it's giving other developers out there ideas on how to create the perfect "REAL, LIVING, BREATHING WORLD"

Yours,
Vengence

A fair review.
One can have a different opinion on the points you criticized, but thatīs not a problem.

Hmm...I do agree with a couple of comments in the review, but there are also a number of things you left out which are crucial for an RPG. Gothic gets many aspects better than any other RPG to date. I'll start with combat. RPG's always have the lamest combat system. You never really feel like a master swordsman skilled in the art of chopping enemies up. Gothic does so with a grace seldom found even in similar themed action games. I like it even better than the system in Rune, as amatter of fact, I could see a straight out action/adventure using this fighting system and getting away with it.
To me this is really a big plus, and something that elevates the gameplay a great deal.

Also, the fact that improving your skills is graphically visible is a masterful concept. Just think about it, the idea is revolutionary in its own way because you haven't really seen this in another RPG.

I do agree though with the fact that the game world is kind of small. Originally I thought it was huge, perhaps the sequel could expand on this area, but I'm satisfied with what PB has given us. IMHO, it's the best RPG of the year and one that should become the trend setter other developers should learn from.

PS: I was wondering if you could please let me know about the fog distance hack in Ultima 9, I would really like to try it out. If you could direct me to the site where it's found or explain to me how to do it I would appreciate it greatly.
