| Why Can't I Access Level 4? |
|
According to what I have read, I should be able to pass the troll guarding the bridge and access level 4 to find Shany. I have talked to her mother and have the book so the quest has been activated.
However, the troll guard does not allow me to pass. He says I am not a friend.
Not only that but I now find I can't even re-enter the troll mine or goblen city. It's like I've never been there before.
Any thoughts?

The situation you describe is normal for the beginning of the game (before you meet the human King for the 1st time). If you are further into the game, then it looks weired.. Did you "exploit" the game in any way (like with the troll idol and king Pog)? What version do you play? What is your current quest?

I'm playing version 1.16. My current quest is to rescue Shany. I have reviewed the walkthrough and I have done everything needed to get to this point. I don't believe I have done anything weird to screw things up and I have had no trouble with the game up to this point.
The only thing I wonder about is I no longer have the letter from the human king to the troll king in my inventory (the one that allows initial entry into the mine) as I threw it away after I explored the mine and goblin city. Could this be the problem?

You hit the nail on the head. Go get the letter and do that speach with the Troll King and then the troll will move from the bridge. |

as he has already shown it to king Pog, but everything is possible in Arx (a bug with the tavern, cheese and a mouse comes to mind)..
Larry the Bold, if everything fails, I would say just kill the troll(s). They are actually there for pure experience (but make sure you've done the Greu and money making quests 1st) and do not play role in the main story.

Thanks for the replies. I decided to re-load a saved game and re-traced my steps from the clearing of the tunnel through getting the Shany quest.
And guss what! Even though I did everything exactly the same and still didn't have the note from the human king in my inventory, when I got to level 3 there were no trolls in sight and the access to level 4, the mine and the city were all open. Go figure. It must have been some sort of temporary bug. |
