Gothic, Morrowind, and Oblivion
   

I just entered Khorinis without talking to the guard, and had a very funny conversation with Lothar. The voice acting in Gothic 2 looks like it will be as good as Gothic which I thought was excellent. I wish Morrowind had some of Gothic's/Gothic 2's humour. I hope Oblivion learns from Gothic/Gothic 2 and gives us some interesting npcs like Mud, Lothar, the guy in Gothic who built his hut where he shouldn't have ("How many times have I told you bastards to stop walking through my hut!?" Also, I read a review that said Oblivion had 50 (fifty) hours of speech. That sounds like a ton and it looks like Bethesda may have learned something from Gothic, but I actually don't have anything to compare the 50 hours to. For example, how many hours of speech are there in Gothic? If I knew that, then that would put Oblivion's 50 hours into perspective.

There's one thing about MW I don't understand. Was it really necessary to design it with the teleport method of opening doors? For those of you who don't play MW, when you enter a building the door doesn't actually open - instead you get teleported inside. There's also no windows because the outside world doesn't exist. Gothic and Gothic 2 don't do this. You only load a cell at a time in MW so I don't understand the windows and door thing. It looks like Oblivion will use this strategy too. What about Gothic 3??

Anyone here ever play Baldur's Gate? I tried it for the first time a few days ago. Very disappointed. I don't like the 3rd person bird's eye view. How can anyone get excited about a combat scene where the characters are so small you can barely see them. I much prefer the Gothic series and MW. I plan on getting NOTR too. I hear it's quite difficult.

Looking forward to Gothic 3 and Oblivion...

The bottom line is that there are a great many games that use the isometric perspective, and that some of them are amongst the best games ever, and other are pretty terriffic in their own right, such as:
- Planescape: Torment
- Baldur's Gate I + expansion
- Baldur's Gate II + expansion
- Fallout I & II
- Diablo I & II + expansions
- Divine Divinity
- Icewind Dale I & II + expansions
- Neverwinter Nights
... etc ...

Many of those games are not 'combat-focused', but rather about a story and party based interaction with combat involved. The pacing is different than the FPS-esque MW and Gothic games, but they are very rewarding once you get into them - and I suggest you try again.
