What do you think is the best Infinity Engine driven game out there?

Tough choice, Delo, tough choice... I really like them all. They are a big part of my life - many months of my life in fact

I answered BG/TOSC. I love P:T but in a minute there will be dozens of votes for it anyhow BG was the first and in this sense it was the best - first time everything, you know. BG is the only IE game I replayed 3 times.

But still... Tough choice

I have personally never played Torment. I know, I know, you all are gonna be like, "WHAAAT????? HOW DARE YOU!!". It just looked a little too futuristic for me (but I only base that on the trailer that came on BG, so don't rant on me for that). I personally think IWD2 is the best. The third edition rules work perfectly for the game and the amount of freedom it grants you (especially compared to the other IE games) just makes it that much better. I can actually make a good fighter/mage with it. The other games were just too restricting for my tastes, although I still grant them high ratings for they are good in any case.

And I know that neverwinter nights isn't a IE game, but I think it was pretty stupid for being a DD based game. Turning it to 3D just took the feeling away.

I'd like to say Torment. It had the best story and the best character development, and I claim that those are the most important things to me in an RPG.

However, the story was pretty good in Baldur's Gate II, and the gameplay was better. More freedom of movement, more classes, better action, more items to pump up my character. Should I feel dirty? Maybe, but BG is my favorite series and they were all addictive. So, it edges out the in-some-ways-superior Planescape: Torment.

Baldur's Gate 2 by far. Icewind Dale 2 would be the runner up. I didn't much care for the Throne of Bhaal expansion of BG2 except for the Watcher's Keep part. Cespenar was a hoot though!

"OOOH... Shiny Ones.."

"WOOOOW..."

"En...Joy"

Word. You echo my exact sentiments regarding PS:T. You have a noteworthy (by CRPG standards) story and the NPCs are very developed. But what else is there? This is only half of a great game formula. You still need to have gameplay that makes it fun to explore, discover items, develop your character, plan combat, etc. Torment was lacking in that "second half" in my opinion.

Naa, BG2 had better gameplay. But I still go with PS: Torment because I love the feel of Sigil and it’s Tieflings. (That and the character Annah)
