modding

Hi

I have a little experience with making mods and wanted to give it a try with gothic. I read the tutorials and realised i need a copy of 3d studio max. (I actualy thought of buying one, until i dicovered the price). Are there any other (affordable, freeware, second hand...) programes i could use instead.
I have a copy of 3dGamestudio, but no experience in converting those files.

Al (legal) tips, tricks and suggestions welcome,

Parcival

As I understand it you only need 3DS Max if you want to create a new world, new armour, new weapons or stuff. As long as you can live with the existing puzzle pieces you won´t need it.
(I heard rumors an older version of Cinema4D (?) also has the necessary export filters. This version has been sold for budget price on a magazine CD. It was months ago, the people on WoG should know about it.)

An unofficial English Mod Development Kit and the English script base are (not publicly) available. PM NicoDE about them.
A forum specialized on modding can be found on World of Gothic.de.
"Modifikationen": completed and released mods.
"Editing": practical questions regarding modding.
Posting in English is no problem, but you should mention it if you also want answers in English (instead of German).

If I were you I would simply open a thread, tell the guys you have some experience, know the tutorials and ask for a brief summary/update which programs can be used for what because the tutorials seem to be a year old.

Have fun.
