G2 is really a hard game...:(

This is my second time to play.
Last time I only play for 3hr,
bz the bandits is too strong, I stuck there and give up.

Last week I found this game inside my desk.
(It is "very" inside.)
I have quiet lots of free time and not other game I want to play,
Also I found addon can translate to en ver,
so I wanted to play again and though that I can finish it this time.

But...
I can say I am very "hard" to play this game.
I found many spoilers, taking time for reading forums and do many others.
Now I am just in chapter 3 and only have lv14..
I had done many quest I can do in chapter 1
(There are too many monsters I cannot kill....)
but only get lv10, how do u lv up to higher?
And I still kill weak monsters for exp ,
when the seeker stand in front of the vom pass,
he only use 4 hit for beat me down.(Hp 324 Fr 20)
each hit I can do only give he few damage.
My skill is 1H and up to 50,str is 50.
This is the same with other more powerful monster
Orcs, wrags, Dragon snappers, seekers, Lizard men, shadowbeasters and others.

And after 1hr and lots of items for fight with "a" seeker, escaped from vom,
I found everywhere are seekers, dragon snappers....................
This time I am really disappointed, maybe it is too hard for me....

--
Maybe G3 is better?
But I though I will not buy it again...

I think you need to start all over and make sure that in each chapter you kill all the creatures you can for xp. Most respawn from chapter to chapter so you can go back and find more in places you cleaned out before.

Save often so you can avoid the ones who kill you. Talk to everyone, as you may have missed a quest or two.

You should be higher level by chapter 3. Be sure you don't go to the VOM until you are sent there for something. And try joining the milita the first time around. Also become apprentice as soon as possible so you can start to earn money for better weapons and armor. Hope this helps a little.

There are also a lot of areas without wargs and orcs to level up even if you're still very weak. Try to find those and do as much quests as you can find, there are a lot of quests that are relatively easy.
As a militia you will get already in chapter 1 some very good armor that can be very useful.
Do not spend your learning points on too many different skills, take for example strength and one-handed and first trains those two untill you are a decent fighter and able to use a strong weapon. One-handed might be easier than two-handed because it's easier to get those weapons than two-handed weapons.

And of course practise a lot with the fighting and blocking system.

Thx for reply.

Hmm..

Maybe I put too much LP on hunting skill,
but I dont like to waste everything on animals.
Hunting skill cost me over 15LP,
this is a lot of investment on start.
Maybe u can give me some skill learning suggest?
It is a big favor for me.
I always try to learning more earning skill for lack of money,
but it seem to cause fewer LP on combat skill..

And about exp,
I had already fool around all Lands on the map and kill a lot what I can,
and fininsh many quests that can find out on spoilers...
but I still get low lv.....
maybe there are too may monsters I dont try to kill,
but that kinds of monsters are always killing me with 2or3hit...
What most powerful kinds of monsters are u killed in chapter 1?
what I can do are only snappers, gablin skeletons, lurkers.
(But if used exp to evaluating, the citizens is the most powerful ones. )

Definately too low level. You can become level 18 in CH1 only. All you need to do is to finish all the quests you can and check out all the areas in the Khorinis side of the island, including the big forest between Jack's lighthouse and the Circle of the Sun (or Black Troll).

Forget about hunting skills for now, only hunting skill you really need is skinning animals, in case you become Bosper's apprentice (good choice that, Bosper pays good for skins). After that, try to get STR close to 100, and some melee skill to acceptable level at least (i.e. 1H is OK already at 30%, 2H is OK at 60%). Don't play a magician first time through the game, magician is a difficult path and you should try that lateron

Pick up the things you can find, all of them, and sell as needed. If you come across some spells like Destroy Undead, then save these scrolls - should you explore the game world well, you'll find one cave with REALLY tough undeads, who would be too tough to fight, but these scrolls will deal with them easily. There's one handy 2H sword also in that cave..

Basically, explore the world, do the quests, level 18 you should be able to get for sure. First time try to play through the game with some melee class, paladin is a good first try guild. Mercenary is tad rougher and magician is definately hard for the first time.

You can also save the tougher ones for later, But you should try for at least level 9 before you join anybody. You must have rushed through like I did the first time. If you start over, do as many quests as possible for both militia and mercs before you join anybody. You'll run into lots of managable monsters on the way. Do everything you can find in the city AND out at the farm. If you wish to continue the game you are playing, there are probably still plenty of places with just field raiders and the like you may have missed. What guild are you playing?

I had joined the militia first, for the armor.

Is str more important than skill?
High skill can let me do more critical hit, that looks quiet nicely,
but low damage weapons seem not to harm some stronger monsters much enough.
So it is good to choose more powerful weapon at first?

Thx for everyones' suggestion,
I though maybe I should restart or take some more further saves in chapter 1.

Is this cave under the circle of the sun?
I had go in left and kil that cockroach-like monster,
the other way has two skeletons in it.
I though I need more Destroy Undead scrolls for that,
there are many undeads I found...

Had anyone tried the transform scrolls?
Maybe it is useful for beating some stronger monsters?

I don't think that's the cave he's talking about. I think the one he's talking about is on the path from Grimbold to the circle, on the right. Really good sword in there if you can beat or get past undead. There's 3 skeletons and a couple of shadow warriors in it.

Strength is just as important as skill since you need str to use the better weapons.

The transform scrolls can help you travel for sure. But you have to be careful as some critters automatically attack certain other critters. For instance don't even try to transform into a shadowbeast around an orc. A lot of critters are totally ignored by everything else though, like bloodflies. I've never tried fighting transformed so I can't tell you about that.

hmm..
I found it on the G2DB's map.
But I think I should pick up\buy more DU scrolls first.

Now I reload the save that just played 9hrs and be in dexter's bandit place.
After I tried to kill bandits who went in and then went out of dexter's house,
I found Greg were there and all other bandits had be moved on the roof.
That's really funny.

I tried to use some 2H weapons at this time,
although I had learned 1H skill to 34,
but I think it is not too late to play G2 in another way now.

Skill is more important, I think. It's easier to swing a sword with a higher skill, you'll swing faster and do more damage. But you'll need to find a good mixture in the beginning, because a non-critical hit does about 20 damage, no matter the weapon you're using or the strength you've got, a critical hit does strength+weapondamage-enemy armor, so if you have a sword that does 10 damage and requires 10 strength it's useless to train fighting very high because you'll notice no serious increase of damage. Later in the game when you're having a weapon that does 80 damage and requires 90 strength your skill level makes a lot of difference.

Transform spells are handy to use in the VoM, if you find a creature that is still too tough for you, you can transform in say a fieldraider or some other worthless creature and walk past it. As a lurker, fieldraider, scavenger no creature will attack you. As a sheep -> watch out for wolves etc.

True. Gothic 2 is really an easy game, I never had problems with the difficulty. It's one of the easiest rpgs, because of it's softcore and arcade fighting. in other rpgs, there is no possible way that an expirienced player can beat 10 levels or more higher oponent, like in Gothic, where you can beat Orc Warrior at level 10 altough Orcs were made for characters of levels 20+ you can still beat him if you're good enough. That's what I call arcade play and such things make game easy (but still fun)
But I still don't understand how is it possible that some people have problems leveling up.

But it isn't important anyway. It's important that you have fun with it, no matter if you completed the game at level 30 or at level 50. Just as long as you have fun.

Hard to level up or not - In time, you will learn what monsters you can attack at early levels and where to find them. Next time, it will be much easier for you (after you finish the game and play it again).

Maybe I feel hard bz this is my first time to play this game.
Before I played this game, I though it is like "Severance: Blade of Darkness".
But after I did, I knew the two are really different.

"Severance: Blade of Darkness" is a good game and I finished it several times,
I think Maybe I still don't get used to the battle system in Gothic series.
Now I am trying and enjoying the different one.

And..
I have some question about bows,
Are that bows and crossbows adding their damage both basic on Dex?
Crossbows always reqire str to equip...
So I often get mess up...
And how many LP cost on bow/crossbow could let bows to be really helpful in battle?

Thx for everybody's reply
