Accidentally bought Gothic 2 |

Don't ask.
Anyway, I figured I'd play it. I've been searching around the internet for possible patches and stuff and everything I've found is in German.
This is incredibly frustrating.
If anyone here can help me get this game running properly I will be very grateful.
I need patch links and info about NOTR. Is it German only? etc.
Thanks. |

Oh, and when I start the game I get this error and then the game stops:
X: XD3D_InitPerDX: Can't create D3DX context! Error: DDERR_UNSUPPORTED
I've updated my drivers several times since the release of this game. I guess it's just a patch thing. I just need to find English patches... _________________ RPG Codex

Welcome to our forum!
This is a known problem. I found a detailed description in one of the German forums. Hereīs a summary with 4 possible solutions.
Problem: The driver canīt switch to full screen in certain resolutions. The exact reason is unknown, it seems to happen on random driver / card / DirctX / windows combinations.
1. The usual workaround:
Set your desktop to a 32bit resolution, edit the gothic.ini to match it. Repeat with all normal resolutions if necessary.
2. Activate "Enable table fog emulation" in the graphics driver options.
3. Try another driver. (I guess you can skip this one.)
4. on older ATI cards:
a) Uninstall graphics driver including remainings.
b) Uninstall DirectX with a special tool. Reboot.
c) Install DirectX8.1 from the G2 CD
d) Install Cat3.9 _________________ Webmaster GothicDot |

Ok, new problem.
I'm fighting the fire dragon Feomanthar. I have found a way to beat him, so that isn't really the problem. Tips would still be welcome, though. (I'm using a potion of speed and I just keep running straight into his chest and swinging. I've found he can't knock me back while I'm running into him and swinging at the same time.)
It's a technical problem I'm having. The game locks up when I fight him. It hasn't ever locked up before this. Also, it ONLY locks up during a certain move: He flies over my head and I follow his motion with my mouse.
It seems to do this on a whim, but almost always does before I can kill him or he can kill me.
Help me please.
Edit: I've already tried: reinstalling, restarting, defragging. _________________ RPG Codex

I just turned the graphics settings down as low as they could go. That helped. It still locked up once in a while during a dragon fight when they'd fly over my head, but it was enough to allow progression fairly consistently. _________________ RPG Codex
