Draw Your Sword Miscreant! ... Ouch! That's Sharp!

Hello there

Someone just gave me "Enclave" as a prezzie, bless their little cotton socks.

Has anyone out there played this? I had great fun with "Severence: Blade of Darkness" and wonder if this is a similar animal?

I'm assuming from the sword and sandals screenshots on the box that this is not a flight sim..... but other than that it's all guess work here at Badger Towers. Anyone up for giving me a mini DOT review?

Badger.

It's a pretty good action game, though I found the XBox version a bit difficult for my rheumy fingers and foggy glasses (not enough save points IMO).

Other than that, it was fun. It looked good and had a nice atmosphere, it didn't have the style of 'Die by the Sword' or BoD, but it's a good game in its own right. Enclave is mission-based, with several (a few in the beginning, more later on) characters to choose from. You can (but need not) save other characters during the game who then wander into your list of playables. By earning money during missions you can upgrade your chars' inventories afterwards.
The missions are pure hack'n'slash, even though sometimes it's better not to be seen. What I didn't really like were the secret levels, those were too straightforward for my liking.

You start playing the 'good' guys; once you're through with this campaign you can play the 'bad' guys, though there are means for the impatient as well (meaning, you can play the Dark campaign first if you so desire, provided you know the trick).

Thanks Jaz

I'll look forward to checking it out. For the moment I'm practicing Extreme mental discipline and trying to delay installing it until I finish something else.

But....The...Box...Is...Sooooo...Shiny............<gasp> Whoah! Easy Boy!

Hehe, install it Badger, you know you want to.

It was a fun little game. It's good for an afternoon when you just want to run around hitting things with a big axe while screaming "Respect my authority!" My personal favorite level was the one where you shoot at the hordes of goblins with a big ole cannon. Good fun.

i never played Enclave but i know many hardcore diehard Severance fans who hate it

they find that it's combat is extremely shallow when compared to Severance

also they complained that many of the traps in Enclave are illogical and impossible to avoid until you've died to them at least once, making for frustrating gameplay

Eeek!!! That's not good news Navaros! Any combat that compares as shallow next to "Severance" must invent a whole new hitherto uncharted level of shallowness.

Don't get me wrong, I very much enjoyed the game. But in the last couple of levels I found that even I was having trouble enjoying yet another rehash of the same enemies, but in bigger and bigger multiples and with more and more hit points.

But the good news is that cause "Enclave" is a prezzie, your Badger looses nothing by giving it space on the hard drive.

Added to which, for the relative who saw this on budget, thought of me and bought it! This represents a MAJOR change in direction from the usual socks and scarves. A direction shift which is to be applauded, nurtured like a tiny kitten and encouraged to flower! (Erm... so not really much like a kitten then.) So.. whatever it turns out like.. it's going to be "THE BEST GAME I EVER PLAYED!"...... if you get me

Thanks for pre-warning me though. I'll be ready for X-tream shallowness.

Badger

Why can I see Val doing this, complete with Cartman accent? I think I see a Rambo knife instead of the axe (possibly an aluminum baseball bat since blunt force trauma just has that special touch), but the rest of the vision is perfectly clear.

Isn't that how every FPS should be approached?

I usually take the cowardly approach.

Very sensible, piln. It wouldn't help you in an 'old-school' game like Doom, Painkiller or Serious Sam, but as a general rule being a coward pays off in FPSes.

Needless to say I'm an FPS coward as well, and a backstabbing coward at that .

Shoot, not stab. With a sniper rifle, so I can be a looong way away... with a silencer on it, too... and camouflage... nice and safe

Uh.. I mean no! No, of course not, Val! I would never dream of... look over there!

(runs!!!!)
