The Demo

OK, there's been lots of pro and con about the demo. The devs claim this has really helped them, and maybe it has, though they certainly haven't given themselves much time to fix the problems. For me, the major issue still is that after playing the demo, I'm now unsure about buying the game. Yes, part of it was fun, but we were given uber characters. Will it still be fun with weaker characters and poorer equipment, spells, etc. I worry about how good a guide the demo really is. Personally, I think they should release another Demo immediately, to allay some of the fears the first one generated!!

As I do with any game, I'm waiting until I read a few reviews about it first.

After Wizards & Warriors, I won't consider purchasing a DW Bradley game until the first patch is released.

lol Dte!

I will go by what trusted RPG gamer sources here at RPGdot have to say about it. Except for the curious professor Roqua of course, as it seems he purchases his games for purposes other than obtaining a quality product.

After my initial disappointment, I've really warmed to it. I've played the demo through a couple of times, climbed over the mountains to see a little of the rest of the world and am really quite looking forward to it. I'm still disappointed at a number of issues...I was hoping for more than a "dungeon crawler" but after adjusting my expectations, I think it will be fun.

After speaking briefly to Chuk from HP, I do think this is a version/repack/whatever of the old press demo from last ~December, so I think the development may be quite a way past this. I don't have incontrovertible evidence but the implication of several statements seems to be "we didn't really want to release this" -- but Dreamcatcher seems to have decided on a demo come hell or high water.

Even if I'm wrong, they've still made quick progress. Resolutions through to 1600x1200 now work, changes to the spell charges, sound improvements, balancing and more.

What we didn't see at all in the demo is the story. Time will tell.

I will probably buy DL.

Having played the demo, I think it looks promising. For me, first impressions count as in the first five mins or so. Grafix, sound etc seem well done and in this drought of rpg's, I need something for when I have finished KoTOR2.

Regards,

Hexmaster

I like what I see in the demo. I need to play it some more though. I think it has some serious potential, especially 8-player co-op!

With the big lack of pureblood CRPG's at the moment, I will probably give this a swing. I might not be the first buyer in the stores, but eventually I will most certainly buy it.

I already consider that $40 spent, and I'll be at my local EBGames at noon of in-store day ... ready for either JKII/Gothic II style love or Deus Ex: Invisible War style loathing and disappointment

After some tickling and scratching at the save game, i crawled over the mountains with my improved rogue and found a really fascinating world.( and some crashes due to missing files)
The landscape is really cool. I like it much more than MW.
I cant understand what more could be expected from a RPG.
FPS-producers are sticking on "state_of_the_art_3D_effects" cause there is nothing else they can stick on with a FPS, but this game is carrying some content and dont need glittering water (hey, its just water..)
and missing story ? How can a (short) demo tell a story ??
Enter the dungeon and leave it elsewhere alive is all the story i need...hehe

So i will keep my preorder running.

Zeb( hoping for a rainy spring:-))

Looks like my caution was wise... I blamed Activision for the W&W debacle, but perhaps DWBradley and HP are demonstrating a trend.

The vituperation on the Dreamcatcher forums is fascinating to read. Did you know the person at Gamershell who wrote the scathing review of the game has now been banned from their forums!!

He was banned for nothing to do with the review, but rather for using the same basic language and attitude, and getting nasty and personal with people on the forums.

In other words, you might surmise from the review that he is a arrogant jerk and loser ... he came to the forum and removed any doubt.
