Need some thieving help

I'm already to chapter 5 in Gothic 2 and I have yet to find a single person who can teach lockpicking/sneaking. I've come across countless locked chests that always piss me off cuz i dont know how to open them. whoooo teaches this and where can i find him?! i figured i would have come across them way back at the start of the game since you find locked chests right away.

lockpicking - thieves guild or Thorben
sneaking - thieves guild or Bartok

Alright... if I knew where to find the Thieves Guiled i probably wouldnt have asked my question.

I've been all over Khorinis and all around the land looking for it. I'm beginning to think they just don't want to be found... what am I missing?
