Dungeon Siege: LoA - Pre-Order to receive bonus cloth map

Got this one from Microsoft earlier in the mail today:
October 16, 2003

Don't Get Lost in the Jungle! Pre-order Dungeon Siege: Legends of Aranna and Receive Bonus Cloth Map

Microsoft Game Studios today announced an exclusive pre-order deal with EB Games and GameStop to reward gamers who pre-order Dungeon Siege: Legends of Aranna with a cloth map of the land of Aranna. Durable and exquisitely detailed, the cloth map is an adventurer’s best friend when stopping the caravan to ask for directions just isn’t an option. Dungeon Siege: Legends of Aranna is the expansion pack to Dungeon Siege, the award-winning action fantasy role-playing game of 2002. The Legends of Aranna expansion pack, which also includes the full version of the original Dungeon Siege, will be available in North America on November 12 for an estimated retail price of $29.95 (U.S.).

Dungeon Siege: Legends of Aranna unveils an all-new campaign that will challenge players to explore and fight their way through nine spectacular areas, including an expansive new jungle region, as they unravel the rich history and mystery of the world of Aranna. Legends of Aranna will also introduce new spells and special over-the-top spell effects to combat fierce new creatures such as Clockwork Beasts and Doppelgangers. After starting the game as a farm boy or farm girl, players will be able to add a new Half-Giant player character to fill out their party or choose the Half-Giant directly for multiplayer mode. Spells will also be discovered further into the game that can temporarily transform the player character into a wolf, troll or lava monster. Players will be able to collect rare and powerful treasures, including new consistent styles of armor sets and collectables. Also available is a new pack animal that will defend the player's treasure to the death.

For more information, please visit the official site at http://www.dungeonsiege.com/. Dungeon Siege: Legends of Aranna is being developed by Mad Doc Software and Gas Powered Games.

Big Deal! You spend 30$ to buy an expansion which gives you 20 hours of more hack n' slash play-time and they give you a lousy cloth map. They should reduce the price if they were really well meaning. All games should be about 30$ and all expansions should be 10$.That would be fair and the makers would still be making enough money. If the President and all the vice-presidents took a cut in their multi-million dollar salaries,Microsoft and all the other big companies could give us a break instead of raising prices.

The Ultimas are the only games for which I keep the game boxes, including the old Ultima IV for the Commodore 64.

I notice that the expansion pack "also includes the full version of the original Dungeon Siege", which makes it a pretty good deal...except for those of us who already have Dungeon Siege. Almost circular logic there.

I'm more looking forward to the (free) Elemental mod, and their SecureChar system in particular. It would have been awesome if Dungeon Siege had came out with their own central character repository, so that building your character actually /meant/ something, a la Battle.net.

What is the point of a map for this game? All you ever do is advance from A to B to C - It isn't even like you are going to get lost!
