Screwed out of Greg's treasure?

I was kind of mean to Greg the first two times I talked to him. I assume that he was supposed to give me a quest to dig some treasure for him. He never gave me that quest and now I can't dig up all those nice little red x's where I'm sure is some good loot! Is there any way I can fix this? Like maybe get a shovel somewhere?

I think all you need is a pick-axe which u can find all over the place or you can buy in the Bandits camp in NOTR.
