I was trying to do a backup Copy of dd, like i normally do with my games, but i never get to copy the game right. My answer is: is the game with some kind of nasty protection, or my CD-RW is crappy? |

Most games now-a-days use a form of copy protection on the CDs. So I would assume that yes, the CD is copy protected. _________________ Freeeeeeedom! Thank heavens it's summer!

It's copy protected. I don't think it's illegal though. _________________ Kewl quotes:

You don't have those rights. It's only legal if the publishers of Divine Divinity say so. Which they do on the disc.. labeled as 'special cases'.
Anyway, it says in the game not to make illegal copies, or else your computer might blow up. |

Yes it is legal.
Your purchasing the rights of the media, not the cd. In theory these rights last a lifetime, so if you could prove it you could contact the publisher and make them send you a back up cd 20 years from now.
Most games are copy protected.
You can make back up copys. It does have copy protection. In order to get the backups to run you would need to remove the copy protection from the installed program.
I wont explain how! |

You dont have to 'remove' the copy protection, just use a programme that copies the copy-protection info as well. try CloneCD
www.clonecd.net
And DO use it for personal backups only!

I too like to make a back-up and I tried Clony XXL, Clone and Nero - and none would copy successfully. It keeps saying the disk didn't have it's idenitifying data - or something like that. _________________ There're 3 sorts of people who're good at maths - those that are and those that aren't. |

As far as i know the cds contain hidden data files that cannot be copied by cd copying programs like nero burner. u cant even see them and the .exe of the game looks for these files when u run it. When u copy a cd u dont copy there hidden files so u need to use a crack to run the game. crack .exes are identical to the games exe files but they dont look for these hidden files. thats how i know
Therefore the best games are the ones that doesnt require cd after installation. u can copy them and with a proper cover u can sell them as originals and earn ur pocket money ^^. |
