Disable sound in the gothic.ini and try to start the game.
Updating the sound driver and going back to DirectX8 is also an option. _________________ Webmaster GothicDot

Disabling sound worked - game ran OK. Turns out my sound card did not support hardware acceleration.
I installed a new 3d sound card and now works fine under Direct X9.0b.
